The old STALKER series,  Fallout  (3 game of the year, new vegas, fallout 4 is still worth it) , wasteland 2 can be fun,  metro games, bioshock is ok , tomb raider series ,  penumbra series and SOMA  (same company made them) ,

The Witcher 3: easily one of, if not THE best game I have ever played, and has over 100hrs of content. Bonus point if you play through 1 and 2 beforehand and then import your save.

I love The Witcher 3 the gameplay is so good.

Titanfall 2 and guild wars 2 are returning favorites of mine for online games. Stellaris is also great single player (and multi player) fun.

SOMA is really not that scary, just a few jump scares at the beginning... the story is very nice and it's worth playing the game until the end. Give it a try... it's not like those other scary games from same company, not scary like those.

Make sure you get Epic Games launcher as they have free games every Thursday. Occasionally they have some good ones.

I am far from an expert in this so please correct me if I’m wrong.

Plague Inc.

On a serious note.

I reckon you would like Pathfinder: Kingmaker or Divinity: Original Sin 2

The way is that it's the same engine :P. It's a crazy amount of fun and the single player campaign is really good (some actual good writing with interesting plotpoints, challenges and multiple ways of handling things.

I reckon his dislike is due to either

"Them being associated with Tencent" the funny thing here is that they are in term owned by various investor groups like Naspers

or

Because they are anti consumer with their 3rd party exclusive.
