This is the BEST game controller. Let me explain…

NickHeavy

Is there a middle ground to the controller vs mouse & keyboard war?? Is JoyShockMapper any good? Want to add air mouse functionality and use stuff you already have? That’s what Jibb Smart aimed to do with his development of JoyShockMapper, allowing users to easily integrate the Dual shock 4, Switch pro controller, and Joy Cons into everyday gaming similar to that of the Xbox controller.

You've been able to do this for years with steam, and on a per game basis. Just open the overlay and click "configure controller" in the top right. or choose configure from big picture mode. It has a nice GUI and everything. Even works with non steam games and on the desktop.

Edit: Might not work with Joy-Con but works with Xbox, DualShock, Switch Pro and Steam Controller.

Steam Controller had this since release and you never even mentioned gyro controls in that review. Anyways, you can set this up via the Steam overlay settings for Dual Shock quite easily now as well. I think that the Nintendo controller will work too. It should also work on Linux.

Another good use for gyro controls are driving games or flying sims, I recommend giving it a try.

(there isn't a delay between the controller moving and the steering wheel moving, I set a small dead zone so that my hand shake is not registered)

I just use AntiMicro.

Dunno if it works with motion/gyro though. Hasn't been updated in a while, but if it ain't broke, don't fix it, right? Also, it has a GUI. Still work just fine on the latest version of Win10. (there is a fork available that's newer, but I'm dumb and don't see any obvious way to download a pre-compiled version... Or if it's even available for Windows.)

Yes, I'm aware of all the other methods that have been done. I used them to make sure this was something unique. The flick stick in combination with the open source, developer friendly, nature of this, makes it something that stands out. Also you have to keep in mind once i open up to the other methods the scope of the video changes DRASTICALLY.

I wanted to highlight a really cool use of motion control and bring more light to the subject in hopes of more devs AND users get exposed to projects like this. When you google gyro control this isn't the only result.

I know that this is one thing steam can't do and that steam input is tied to big picture overlay and everything, but I would at least mention it in the video.

The steam controller wasn't epic succes beacuse no big reviewer as far as I know didn't show off what the steam input could do. And for steam input got more features and stuff throughout the years.

And yes, gyro aim originated somewhere around nintendo but I don't know the history

I'll just leave this here that definitively shows motion/gyro is the future of controller gaming, maybe gaming in general:

Can you guys please do a studio-wide case study or even a cross-creator collab on this? It would be really interesting to see how a team of controller "newbs" that might pick up on this quickly perform in CS:GO or Overwatch against a team of "pros" who may struggle to re-train their brains on how to use a controller.

Or maybe take it even further by pitting head-to-head (timed runs, accuracy, & one-on-one PvP match) someone who becomes insanely good with a controller in Gyro Aim Mode against both an average and a pro-level mouse-and-keyboard player.

Whatever you do, PLEASE make some follow-up videos.

I tried to use a controller on Warzone after I was tired of Aim Assist deaths and needed to see what it was all about.

Synopsis - retraining yourself in a controller takes quite a bit of time!  I suck.  My sensitivity is atrocious on my analog etc.  Went straight back to mouse and keyb and thought, F em, they can have aim assist lol

i might actually go buy a Dualshock 4 just for this.

the controller i normally use is an ancient 360 controller and it does work, but i'd love to use a controller for all my games. the reason is i get pain in my hands if i game on a keyboard and mouse for a long time, controllers are just much more comfy for me.

Good to see this getting some positive attention. As one of the many Nintendo fanboys on the internet I've been singing the praises of gyro-assisted aim since the Wii. It's kinda maddening that the gaming community brought into the "waggle" dismissal of any motion control to the extent that it did. Especially given that Nintendo, the only company who continued to bet big on it, doesn't make many games that require precision aim. Outside of Metroid Prime it's what.... Splatoon, barely, and maybe the arrow sections of Zelda games. That's it.

Analogue sticks are great for fast, non-precise movements. Gyros are great for very fine movements. Combine them? Once you get used to it you get very close to the fast and precise movement of a mouse. That and it's super intuitive, you naturally want to move the controller for aim, that's what every kid who first picks up a controller instinctively does

Fools think they know everything, experts know they know nothing
