Looking for Anime recommendations!

gloop

Hey all,

I've not watched a lot of anime before and am looking to get into it. The only one I've watched is Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, which I enjoyed (and got pretty deep into the lore). I am looking for something that is preferably available on Netflix, and I suppose I like medieval themes if that helps!

Thanks in advance!

@Eschew will take care of you.

You can take a look at all of the Tech that I own and have owned over the years in my About Me section and on my Profile.

I'm Swiss and my Mother language is Swiss German of course, I speak the Aargauer dialect. If you want to watch a great video about Swiss German which explains the language and outlines the Basics, then click here.

If I could just play Videogames and consume Cool Content all day long for the rest of my life, then that would be sick.

Hm.. Not sure what is or is not available on Netflix. 🤔 Here's a list of my favorites (might be dated, haven't kept up with recent anime):

  • Blood+ (4 Seasons, 50 Total Episodes): Action, Dark Fantasy, Suspense. Medieval-ish themes, but set in modern-day society. (Warning: Gore, Sensitive Off-Screen/Implied Content.)
  • Kekkai Sensen/Blood Blockade Battlefront (2 Seasons, 24 Total Episodes + 2 OVAs): Adventure, Urban Fantasy, Science-Fiction. Not very medieval, but I still found it very thrilling. Loved the plot.
  • Konohana Kitan (1 Season, 12 Total Episodes): Iyashikei, Mythic Fiction, Yuri. Based on Japanese mythology, not quite European-medieval.

Other recommendations, but I haven't watched 'em:

  • Castlevania: Action-Adventure. Definitely on Netflix. Gothic setting. Considering the premise of the Castlevania games, I'd expect some sensitive content.
  • Berserk: Action-Adventure. Medieval setting. (Warning: Gore, Sensitive Explicit/Implied Content.)

Sadly Not on Netflix

Also not available :( , same case with Konahana Kitan and Beserk sadly.

I'll definitely check out Castlevania, thanks for the suggestion!

What service/platform would you recommend for watching/streaming anime?

Legally? Crunchyroll and Funimation.

Although... Personally haven't used Funimation before, and haven't used Crunchyroll since it loaded itself up with paid services.

Ah. More recommendations that I remember (and haven't watched, lol):

  • Fairy Tail (Crunchyroll, Funimation): Adventure, Fantasy, Comedy. I think it's somewhat medieval-magicky?
  • Attack on Titan (Crunchyroll, Funimation): Adventure, Action, Fantasy. Medieval-ish, steampunk-ish themes.

I don't have the patience to watch anime that never ends or that has over 100+ episodes. 😅

Here is my animelist (I could write what I suggest, by I'm too lazy, filter the list by the scores, so you will see it organised)

https://myanimelist.net/animelist/Xvaster?status=7

But redline is a masterpiece, you can find both dub and sub on YouTube, it took 7 years of hand drawing to complete that film, it's amazing

that time I was reincarnated as a slime is on crunchyroll and is a top quality "died and went to another world" anime (isekai is the genre name)

Attack on titan is a good shout. I personally am not a fan of it, but it's one of the most popular shows for a reason. It's also on crunchyroll, but the first season is available on netflix

If you like going down the lore rabbit hole, try watching Fate Zero, which is on netflix. F0 is IMO the best intro to the fate anime franchise, afterwards you can watch fate stay night unlimited bladeworks and the fate stay night movies. But avoid the original fate stay night that came out in 2006 IMO, it's not very good.

Fate will take you down a path you'll never recover from, if you decide to delve into the lore. Gigguk did a really entertaining video on just how confusing the lore is, which is well worth a watch.

Avatar, Faerie tail, naruto, and bleach are all on Netflix.  None are particularly awesome at mid evil theme, all are only partially represented.  They’ve got the first few seasons but there is much more, with the exception of avatar.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Life is like a bowl of chocolates: there are all these little crinkly paper cups everywhere.

Ignore the original? I don't think I'd go that far.

I've wanted to get into the Fate series but never have. When I do start watching it, I plan to watch everything in order it was released. That's A LOT to get through lol.

But as an outside observer of the show, it seems like it has gone in the direction of a much lighter tone with more cute girls being cute.. and Astolfo being... I'm not sure what Astolfo is. Trap or trans, IDK. All I knew is they seem to have taken over the internet and have become even more popular than many of the CIS girls.

Anyway, I don't mean to hijack the OP's thread but is it true that the series is a bit more comedic and fan-servicey than it used to be?
