Apple Glass has long since been a rumor. Apple's augmented reality glasses would start at 499 USD, and would also include a prescription option.

  • There will be displays in both lenses that can be interacted with using gestures
  • The glasses will rely on a paired iPhone, similar to the original Apple Watch

  • Apple originally planned to unveil the glasses as a "One More Thing" surprise at its iPhone event in the fall, but restrictions on in-person gatherings could push back the announcement to a March 2021 event
  • Apple is targeting a late 2021 or early 2022 release

 

So kinda like Google Glass, but better. I'm not holding my breath simply because it's Apple - but I am hopeful this at least brings a whole new era of tech.

I want such glasses to display everything I look at what it is. Like in System Shock 2 when you looked at bottle of orange juice and it said "Orange juice" on the HUD. I want that. Though I'd prefer contact lenses that can do this. I hate glasses. They are ugly, clumsy and annoying.

I think Apple is keen to shy away from that circa-2001 tendency to name everything "iSomething!"  Also, there are products named "iGlass" already... Apple could probably buy naming rights (many of these companies were just copying Apple's naming scheme), but I imagine it would rather avoid that entirely if possible.

I don't know what everyone is tripping about I would love a pair of augmented reality smart glasses. I already wear glasses so having a HUD added to my life is awesome. Apple destroyed all competition with their wearables so I have high hopes. Knowing Apple too they will probably have deals with Luxotica and other brands so you can get nice looking frames

It would be funny if it turns out Apple is trolling some of its copycats by getting them to waste resources on a project like this.
