Radeon R9 290X hits $900 -- AnandTech

finally america has to pay similar prices to the rest of the world and stops screwing us over, at the end of the day, people wouldnt be buying it if it didnt pay for itself somehow.

a 290 is still cheaper than a 780 in the uk

£310

http://www.ebuyer.com/523363-zotac-geforce-gtx-780-3gb-graphics-card-pci-e-2x-dvi-hdmi-display-zt-70202-10p
£383
most 780s are around £430 which will get you a gigabyte windforce 290x or an MSI gaming frozr 290x..

i think i should point out this is the uk....in europe, not brazil or taiwan or lebanon.. where prices are bound to be high and competing parts have huge price differences.

I miss the good old days were people bought hardware for enthusiast overclocking and not mining,  If the mining bubble bursts I will be happy, It's just a shame we will never be able to overclock like in the late 90's.

^This is pretty much is what happening with AMD cards. For clarification, Arizonas are drinks sold pretty much anywhere and range from fruit drinks to teas. The company imprints a 99 cent logo on them, but a lot of stores put stickers on top of that, thus increasing the price. MSRP isn't mandatory, it can be changed by the retailer, just like what Newegg is doing.

For some reason german prices acctually dropped in the last few weeks. (The aftermarket ones came out for 480€ and are now at 450€.) That means that we finally have better prices in Germany then in America. Great. (450*1,3= 585$ So an aftermarket Tri X R9 290x would be 580$ in germany.

Prices staying stable here as well. Currently reference 290s for 400 euros, aftermakret 290s for 430 and 290X for 490-520 euros here in Belgium.

Nobody buy unless you strictly mine and ONLY mine lite coins. 780 Ti is a much better value and is faster in games.

Why isn't AMD doing anything? All they are doing is losing possible customers now and in the future.

PCper has a great video about his on their YT Channel. Nvidia is winning because their getting people into their Eco System(Gsync,PhysX,ShadowPlay)

I'm lucky that I don't live in mining countries. Unless Nvidia has something that can beat AMD in compute performance. I really doubt AMD cards will drop in price.

Someone at Anantech wasn't doing their job well. . ..$200 rise of point isn't 50%. But I saw this with their bit bitcoin mining advertisement. Can't wait to see what will happen to bitcoin once it become too hard to mine and everyone quits.

Finally my Santa hat doesn't look out of place

AMD in danger of ruining their rep with not so informed PC gamers. They may not look at AMD in the future.

Wow. The 780Ti is much more appealing now, even without Mantle (it already rips the nuts off the 290X in DirectX). Way to go miners.

Still probably bad, since AMD is getting a shit-ton of miners.

You people and your analogies.

It does nothing of the sort. It's slightly better. Like all top tier GPUs are, in relation to each other, only slightly better.

Sorry, I'm just getting tired of the constant use of analogies and descriptors that are completely unfit for the thing they are describing.

The revenge is so sweet. :D

It's the same in germany. R9 280X costs 250€ VS $500 on newegg. :D

@all:

i am willing to sell my Gigabyte Windforce 280X for $399 <o.n.o.> + shipping cost to your place! :D It's still full in the juice, it's only running since december. But i probably want to switch to the green team again, since mining isn't profitable anymore. I have mined for only 2 weeks.

who cares...

Edit: Like only 1 is 799$ and 2 are 879$. the Rest are 899$
