9900K DEAD AFTER DELID

Hello

 

A friend of mine gave me a 9900k already delided by someone... The processor is not working anymore, that’s why he gave it to me, to see what can I do... 

 

First, I checked with intel and the FPO and ATPO don’t match... That was strange... 

 

Second, the IHS and PCB are scratched, pictures attached. I opened it and I saw a horrible delid... The die is very damaged. 
 

So, can this processor can be saved or not?

I wouldnt have been immediately alarmed since 9900K is soldered and you do have to take a knife to the die to clean it. Since you can actually sand down the die and it still works i dont think surface blemishes would be enough to kill it.

Have you actually tried it in a motherboard?

Direct die cooling.

 

Die lapping.

 

And LM can in fact give u a few degrees over a soldered IHS.

While it's true that it's pointless for most, a good few watch 1 der8auer video and it becomes absolutely necessary to run at 5.3GHz all core for the 47 mins a day they play CS:GO before throwing the keyboard at the wall because it didn't make them any better at it.

The die doesn't look damaged to me, can you show a pic of the underside? it's possible it's just a capacitor that peeled off or there's residue? check the pads as well.

Looks like the underside was handled roughly, so it's probably an internal malfunction, there's nothing you can do about it.

Most likely dead as said but I do see a couple of pads with marks/scratching on them. If any are in a critical area of the chip causing a bad pin connection it will not function.
Just for gits and shiggles try hitting the pads with a bit of Brasso and then try it.

 

You certainly won't hurt it at this point.

Wow that didn't de-lid anything like mine, that looks rough. However doesn't look damaged, but does look like more than usual force was needed on this chip to de-lid. 

 

 

Btw the IHS hold down areas look a bit mangled.
