Whats your fastest BIOS Boot Time?

I have seen some gosh awful boot times in my life. The longest I think I have ever seen was about 3 or 4 minute. The fastest I have ever seen is 11.4 seconds. Standard Harddrive and from POST. Strictly Turn it off and Turn it back on. What y'all got?

From pushing the Power button to windows 10 login screen around 14 seconds.

11 Seconds to login screen on my PC.

TV 2 Seconds.

Not long enough to make a cup of tea anymore, which can be annoying.

 

Its so quick now I doubt any quicker would make a difference, its in and around 10 seconds. So by the time I have pressed the button, sat down and put on my headphones my PC is ready to go.

i am sure you mean the bios boot time shown in task manager, and mine is usually 5.5 seconds,

About 12 seconds from off to the logon screen, This is while using my NVME SSD in pcie 2.0 instead of 3.0 - so half the speed. If I go by the "last BIOS time" its 5.3 seconds.

I'm not in front of it right now, but on my Clevo laptop, it's I guess about 40 to 60 seconds or so - from power on to when the American Megatrends logo appears on screen, along with my CPU model (6700K) and 3 of my 4 SSDs.  (For some reason only the SATA ones show up, the 1TB 970 Evo doesn't appear here.)

 

You DID ask about BIOS boot times, right? not OS boot time?

 

After that, it's about another few minutes to restore my hibernated session (off the 250GB Crucial MX200 boot drive) that was using around 50-something GB of RAM.

 

I should test this sometime, but I think my desktop (ASRock Z97 Extreme6, i7-4790K, 32GB RAM, SSD, 9 SATA HDDs, 2 PATA HDDs on a BT-PESAPA controller) would get all the way to a Ubuntu Studio (or Xubuntu, forgot which distro I installed) desktop before my laptop would even POST. ?

 

It's kinda like how my current laptop and desktop CPUs have more than twice the SINGLE-threaded Cinebench score, vs the multi-threaded score on my dad's old laptop that he only just replaced a year and a half ago.  (Also that's the level of 1T upgrade I'm looking for when I upgrade my desktop in 2021/2022.)

running arch on a sata3 ssd and timing it with my phone, 15.2 seconds from power on to desktop with my usual windows running (chrome + 5 terminals), that also included typing in my user/pass.

Now I'm curious ... Who has either

  1. A desktop or laptop, or any other consumer-targeted device that's NOT a server, that takes longer to POST than my laptop would take to get to desktop? (It's not shown in the video, but restoring from hibernation takes about 3 or 4 minutes or so), OR,
  2. An at least dual- or quad-CPU-socket server that will fully boot & restore a hibernated / suspended-to-disk (no cheating with Optane) GUI OS desktop before my dad's old laptop has even POSTed?

Yeah, I know, clean boot vs hibernation restore isn't the most even comparison, but I didn't want to take the few hours or day or more it would take to properly restore my session manually (I have a lot of complex stuff going on), and even from clean boot it still takes quite a while for my laptop to POST.

 

Just to be sure we're on the same page @bipolarsuxs - power button push to appearance of BIOS splash screen on display? (That's what I figured BIOS boot time meant.)

Last BIOS time: 4.7 seconds.

That's pretty fast BIOS time, to Windows 10 lock screen around 10 seconds I think. But getting to desktop and letting everything load so I can open a browser or file explorer without a big delay takes around 20-25 seconds. This is pretty consistent and for a Hard Drive it's blazing fast but I don't have anything open up on startup or a lot of other apps installed

Using a HP Envy 15 with i7-8550U,16GB RAM and a 1TB 5400RPM HDD.

Yes, we are on the same page, thanks for the video @Tarun10. You're cool in my book.  I wish I still had my 486DX2 100MHz. I would for real go take a SHIZ before it would load to windows 95 lolol.

Turning on to the end of the BIOS screen is about 8 seconds.

Starting bootloader to login screen is about 3 seconds.

Setup:

Ryzen 5 1500X

ASRock B450 GAMING ITX/AC

16GB DDR4

PCIE 3.0 X16 RX 570

OPTANE 800P PCIE 3.0 X2

2X SATA SSD

popOS! 19.10

Just checking, how stable is this supposed to be?

 

I have had 9.5 and 5.7 over my last two boots...
