But is still Chromium. A lot of people want browsers to be more than a reskinned and different Chrome which is what everything is except FF and Safari now that Edge jumped ship. It gives more power to Google to dictate future development how they want which, depending on whom you ask, is a pretty bad situation.

The ability to google properly is a skill of its own.

Yeah, I don't need extra 40 bucks a month to sell my data. Even if it anonymized, how do we know it truly is?  Just like google 'anonymized' our data but we can view it nicely sorted in our account information/activities.

 

There is still a browser called firefox which is much better after setting it up.

A simple closable banner at the top is fine by me.   Never bothered me when visiting youtube or Microsoft on FF so I imagine it won't if FF do it. .

I wonder how many people just read the title without reading the article or summary. Seems like at least a few didn't bother.

Firefox is not going Freemium. Mozilla will simply start offering a VPN and cloud storage service. They already tested the VPN portion a while ago, when they offered ProtonVPN through Firefox.

 

This is NOT about having to pay for Firefox. It is about Mozilla offering other services like a VPN, which is subscription based.

Saying that this is like "Firefox going premium" makes as much sense as to say Google Chrome is "Freemium" because Google sells cloud storage through Google Drive.

Yes there are ways of using fingerprinting or flash cookies to track someone with a browser that keeps nothing. The point is they said why they whitelisted them and have an explanation. It’s very simple fix it and Firefox on the other hand you still needn’t to tune. Brave also has tor tabs which Firefox is now doing

I remember when I could go to a computer store and buy Netscape navigator on a disk.. I'm surprised it has taken this long for browser(s) to start going back to that. I mean , other than donations where do these opensource companies get money? how do they pay their CEOs? etc..

I would definitely pay for a browser if I knew Ny data was completely anonymized. I feel like all the current ones have some kind of caveat to avoid using them. 

 

Brave feels a little too good to be true even though it is just a hunch and not me actually doing too much research on the matter.

Firefox, configured to use Tor.

If you want something more practical then Firefox or some Chromium fork with all tracking stripped out.

 

A lot of tracking happens on the websites you visit though and for that it doesn't really matter which browser you use. What is important is how much you block from the website.

If Firefox didn't neuter mouse gesture extensions when they moved to new ones, I'd still use it. Now only browser I know of with good mouse gestures is vivaldi (and maxthon), which kinda limits my browser choice.

Opera has mouse gestures for ages. Was probably one of first to even use them. Vivaldi is alright, but their community is garbage and they don't have any mobile version if you need all your bookmarks on the go through sync.

 

If only Opera Mini for iOS wasn't such absolute garbage... Stupid forced "news" section and forced defaulting to Google as search engine just pissed me off entirely. Desktop version is amazing, but for iOS, absolute junk. And it's not because of iOS because others do all this as configurable so it's not OS limit.

 

Brave is otherwise my favorite, but their bookmarks syncing is still so incredibly buggy I can't depend on it.

I'd be willing to throw a symbolic buck at them for keeping things ad free after Google has taken a turn for the worst with Chrome (possibly)

 

And no please do not try to make "web sites can't survive without ads!" argument at me: by Capitalists standards, most websites that can't survive with tasteful add integration that doesn't ruins the experience simply shouldn't fucking exist whenever it's some random dude's skater pictures or the WSJ ads can fuck off.

It's all about ad presentation. I don't mind a static banners for as long as they aren't breaking the whole page just to be there. I also don't mind LTT's sponsor format before and after video. Especially when Linus or any other presenter plug them in a funny way in relation to the video itself. And I especially like comical ads like Jayz2cents does them or ChrisRayGun (this guy makes some of the most hilarious ad plugs that are often more entertaining than the video itself after the ad segment). If people and companies did this more, ads would be totally fine. What I can't stand is 30 trackers on webpages, some shitty ad video that blasts own shit as soon as page loads and scrolls with the page so it's in your face the entire time, those can kindly fuck off for all I care.
