AMD slash the price of Zen+ CPUs across the board (seems to be mostly worldwide now)

Master Disaster

It's really starting to look like Zen 2 is coming very soon. We've had UEFI updates adding Zen 2 support to X370 & X470 boards, a list of X570 boards, Chinese sellers claiming to have Zen 2 engineering samples and now Amazon have just cut the price of the existing Zen+ CPU.

Quote

It's not unusual for manufacturers to slash prices of their current generation products a few months ahead of their next big releases. This helps clearing stock and drives interest in the company, but it also saves customers the anguish of buying expensive full-priced parts right before the next generation is revealed. In the context of the next generation, the discounted processors will still be a good deal, so now’s a fantastic time to pick up some new hardware if you’ve got the cash to spare.

This represents a great deal and makes the 2700 25% cheaper than its original price and almost half the price of its Intel competitor, the 9700K.

Quote

The Ryzen 7 2700 is down 25% on Amazon, making it possibly the best value CPU available right now. In games, it’s only a few percent slower than the Intel i7-9700K, which is nearly double the price at $410. The Ryzen part looks especially good compared to the i9-9900K, which costs 140% more. Meanwhile, a 20% discount to the Ryzen 5 2600 means it annihilates the i5-8400, which performs roughly the same for $35 more. Thumbs up to AMD.

  • 2600: MSRP $200, Amazon $165, Newegg $165
  • 2600X: MSRP $230, Amazon $190, Newegg $185
  • 2700: MSRP $300, Amazon $220, Newegg $250
  • 2700X: MSRP $330, Amazon $290, Newegg $295

Of course this could be coincidence but considering all the Zen 2 leaks currently happening I'm inclined to think this is stock reduction.

Quote

Videocardz was able to get hold of a list of twelve product names for Asus next-generation X570 motherboards. While mostly just updates to existing products, the list does introduce two new motherboard series to Ryzen, the Formula and the Impact. Formula is what Asus calls their ultra-high-end parts, and they include features like a 2” OLED screen, a built-in VRM water block, and 5 Gbps Ethernet. Impact is the Mini-ITX equivalent. For Asus to introduce these models to Ryzen, Zen 2 must really push the limits of performance.

Meanwhile, TechPowerUp noticed that an MSI motherboard BIOS update included a microcode string labeled AGESA (short for AMD Generic Encapsulated Software Architecture) COMBO-AM4 0.0.7.2. An AGESA changes to support new processors, and according to TechPowerUp’s sources, 0.0.7.2 corresponds with the beta version for Zen 2. It’s likely this update is to let AMD or MSI test with engineering samples of Zen 2.

I think this launch is imminent tbh, I reckon they'll be on shelves in no more than a few months.

Too bad it's US only so far. But then again, I'd still be waiting for Zen2.
I don't think launch will happen anytime soon. It could very well be two or three months away, while old stocks of Zen+ gets depleted.

And I'm still running a 1600x...

I'll probably buy Zen 2 when Zen 3 comes out... no reason for me to upgrade atm.

Still waiting for the drop in Aus.  :( .

I'm in the market for something equivalent or better than the 2600X.

I'm personally waiting for cheapo Ryzen 3 CPUs that cost sub-$100 with 6 cores (which is the rumour iirc) to hit the market.

And those, would be a great value (even better than that of the R5 1600/2600).

Well from what we heard from bizgram, 3-4 weeks seems more accurate.

I have a feeling it'll be either April 7th or May 7th. The raise the game bundle ends on april 6th and the codes must be redeemed by may 6th. Just seems so fishy that they decided to end it 1 day before the 7th of that month. 7th obviously refers to 7nm, the same thing they did with Radeon VII on Feb 7th. May 7th is my bet.

I was figuring something might happen on May 1st, since that is the day of AMD's 50th anniversary.

I guess at this point we'll just have to wait and see.

Yeah and I payed 439€ for my Sapphire Nitro+ Vega 64.

And I've seen the card for 379€.

Right now a VEGA 64 Card that seems good as well (and would even be better for me because of DVI) is there for even less than that -> 359€...

Unless you need the analog part you could use any generic adapter cable since DVI is basically the same as HDMI without audio....

I would love it if a company made a good motherboard in mATX size which is almost as good as the Crosshair VI Hero I'm running right now, I'd like to downsize my build if possible but not necessarily compromise on expandability, since my CH VI only has a single pcie m.2 and I wouldn't mind having another one slot.
