Paul explains what the system does in detail here, but essentially DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling) is a rendering technique that delivers "pretty visuals and faster performance than anti-aliasing at QHD and 4K resolutions" through machine learning.

From what I can tell from a few minutes of googling this will be the first DLSS game on the market, and I am looking forward to what the performance diffence is like. The tech sounds pretty cool, but we don’t have any hard numbers as of yet (correct me if im wrong). Hopefully it isn’t half baked like the first RT patch was in BFV, but we shall see. Various bug fixed, balance improvements, and a new 4-player co-op mode will also be inside the patch. It is due sometime this week, but dice has confirmed via Twitter that it won’t be Tuesday like the PC Gamer article states.

It's nice that EA made a platform for testing all this new rendering tech. It's almost even a game. 

muh specs 

Gaming and HTPC (reparations)- ASUS 1080, MSI X99A SLI Plus, 5820k- 4.5GHz @ 1.25v, asetek based 360mm AIO, RM 1000x, 16GB memory, 750D with front USB 2.0 replaced with 3.0  ports, 2 250GB 850 EVOs in Raid 0 (why not, only has games on it), some hard drives

Screens- Acer preditor XB241H (1080p, 144Hz Gsync), LG 1080p ultrawide, (all mounted) directly wired to TV in other room

Stuff- k70 with reds, steel series rival, g13, full desk covering mouse mat

All parts black

Workstation(desk)- 3770k, 970 reference, 16GB of some crucial memory, a motherboard of some kind I don't remember, Micomsoft SC-512N1-L/DVI, CM Storm Trooper (It's got a handle, can you handle that?), 240mm Asetek based AIO, Crucial M550 256GB (upgrade soon), some hard drives, disc drives, and hot swap bays

Screens- 3  ASUS VN248H-P IPS 1080p screens mounted on a stand, some old tv on the wall above it. 

Stuff- Epicgear defiant (solderless swappable switches), g600, moutned mic and other stuff. 

Laptop docking area- 2 1440p korean monitors mounted, one AHVA matte, one samsung PLS gloss (very annoying, yes). Trashy Razer blackwidow chroma...I mean like the J key doesn't click anymore. I got a model M i use on it to, but its time for a new keyboard. Some edgy Utechsmart mouse similar to g600. Hooked to laptop dock for both of my dell precision laptops. (not only docking area)

Shelf- i7-2600 non-k (has vt-d), 380t, some ASUS sandy itx board, intel quad nic. Currently hosts shared files, setting up as pfsense box in VM. Also acts as spare gaming PC with a 580 or whatever someone brings. Hooked into laptop dock area via usb switch

It's a more efficient upscaling system that they can push to the fixed-function hardware in the GPU that would otherwise not be used. It's interesting, but it's still a solution in search of a problem.

from the looks of it, this will be the first DLSS that supports 1440p instead of just 4k like FF, which is kind of exciting I guess. I still havent bought BF5 because its pretty hard to justify spending $80 on a game I don't really care about just to check out RTX features ?

I tried the Battlefield 5 Beta, and have played the 10 hour trial I got.

 

Game is garbage, not because of graphics or anything, but because of so many bad ideas they had and implemented, as well as bad sound design compared with previous Battlefield games.

Ketchup is better than mustard.

GUI is better than Command Line Interface.

Dubs are better than subs

It was down around like 40% around the holidays. I’m am really enjoying the game, and I haven’t been this engaged with a BF game since BF3. I have around 50 hours and love how it feels, and their patches have been refining things pretty consistently. Seems like we are getting one every 2-3 weeks.

Since you have an RTX card you can buy one of the nvidia promo keys off eBay for ~$20 too.

I've only tried the beta, not worth spending $60 on bf5 IMO. I really don't like that EA decided to focus more on a BR mode,4 player coop,and single player mode rather than multiplayer modes because most people buy Battlefield to play the multiplayer modes. The sound was terrible compared to BF1, every gun sounded quiet almost like you're shooting airsoft guns.

I've seen BF5 for PS4 and Xbox One on sale for $30 USD, I guess EA can get more money out of the PC players. I might consider buying it if it were on sale.

DLSS already exists in at least one game and I believe it was Gamersnexus and Hardwareunboxed that did in-depth videos on it, in short it’s completely pointless, it just super-samples a downscaled image and then upscales it, performance benefit was almost 0 when they considered that 2160P DLSS = 1800P with traditional AA and DLSS also added some weird artificating.

Considering this game was heavily used to promote the Nvidia cards and Nvidia was even involved with it since one of the first trailers of the game I would say that it's probably not a low effort implementation.

You can put all your effort into something doesn't mean you will be good at it or do it right

Its the first game

Drivers/software/firmware/etc have many revisions because they lacked something previously

This...I loved Battlefield 3 and still play 4 occaisionally. Played the BF5 beta for about 5 hours and it's just not fun. Not sure what they did with it but I didn't even feel entertained driving around in the tank like I normally do in the other two games :(

So, after basically 6 months after RTX fanfare, we have 2 whole games that support RTX and DLSS. Much awesome, very exciting. RTX is actually an OK tech, where DLSS I think is stupid with its "deep learning" nonsense. They could have done it entirely local and achieve very similar quality levels...
