With what LTT is building with Floatplane and PewDiePie knowing first hand how YouTube works and why it's bad, with PewDiePie if he went to Floatplane I would buy a subscription and I feel more people word. I just don't want to buy just for LTT as much as I love them.

Pewdiepie already uses the in-house YouTube version where you "join" the channel by paying monthly fees to get early access to videos and whatnot.

I don't think Floatplane is going to be restricted to TechTubers, Linus mentioned it in a WAN show a few weeks ago that he wants it to be an open platform for all content creators that's not beholden to credit/debit card companies like YT/Gofundme are.

Either way, I don't think youtube will let Floatplane steal any of their best cash cows either.

Lets be conservative and say that 5% of his subscribers signed up. that's 2.5 MILLION additional people that floatplane would need to service. LTT currently has 8 million subscribers on their own channel, and a very small percentage of them would be subscribers, hell even a small percentage of people on this forum are floatplane subscribers. and something tells me that their current infrastructure is no where near capable of pushing that much additional content out. there wouldn't really be any incentive to PDP to join, nor would his his fans. they are soo used to getting free content why should they pay for it?

 

Floatplane and other such subscription services are a very niche service as it is, the primary benefit being early access (and apparently some exclusive content but i've never heard anyone talk about it), the only subscription that i have that is similar to it is Rooster Teeth First which has a ton of exclusive content. And again, most people aren't going to pay for something that they usually get for free unless they feel so strongly about supporting their favorite creators, which is only a small percentage of viewers.

Also... if Pewdiepie/(some of) his followers were not so particularly overzealous about trying to promote it... I wouldn't mind as much. After all, I don't go around telling people not to tell people to subscribe to Austin Evans (even as I dislike his video style and voice).

1. He has occasionally played PC games and does everything while on PC.

2. FP isn't going to be tech-restricted once launch. Reason why there are only tech people on it right now is simple. They know its alpha and know how to report errors. And their main audience is tech savvy* and knows service is in aplha, and knows not to throw temper tantrum when something suddenly brokes.

This forum doesn't equal floatplane... This is the LTT forum, not the floatplane forum ?

 

Anyway, I think the platform isn't fully grown up yet hence why there's only three creators on it at the moment. But for the future I dunno if it matters if PewDiePie or any of the biggest youtubers there are join floatplane, it's purpose is to support a creator directly via paid subscriptions instead of solely relying on youtube for his/her income.
