So if you could imagine a dream PC that if you worked hard enough and were patient you could eventually obtain what would it be. For those who don't build PCs you could just post one you find online like the Mac Pro or a high end Dell XPS or Alienware desktop or laptop that would be your dream PC. And for the ones who know how to build PCs what would the part list be. Now I don't want to go super crazy like super computer google crazy make it something that you can have at home sitting on top or next to your desk. Also make sure the PC has a purpose to fulfill your needs and isn't just going to be the most expensive thing you can buy so let's keep the budget under $2500 unless you have a specific purpose that needs a bigger budget like a custom water cooled build or a hobby/job like video editing and try to keep it practical. Like I do stuff like both gaming and video editing so I would need a lot of hard drive space and a lot of CPU power but not as much graphics power as lets say someone who does 3D modeling would need. Also don't be ridiculous and post old outdated hardware as a joke unless you like do do retro gaming and actually want to put something like that together and if you do be sure to mention that.

Here is my dream PC (Mines only over the $2500 budget because I do video editing and usually if someone does video editinng for a living their workstation is pretty expensive and even though I currently only do video production as a hobby currently if I was actually going to be doing it for a livig this is what I would build):

If I had to choose a prebuilt one here it is: http://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/productdetails/xps-8910-se-desktop/ddcwvmax539h
And for a laptop (I have a bit of a sweet spot for small tiny little gaming laptops): http://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/productdetails/alienware-13-laptop/dkcwkble4s

PS I do have a Alienware 13 laptop already but it's a older model that I bought used in pretty much new condition and the GPU in it is a bit weak for 2016 standards being a Nvida 860m and it's pretty much as fast as a Nvidia 650ti

  1. 3 Optical drives: 1 with highest CD write speed (still nice to have), 1 with highest DVD write speed and 1 with Blu-Ray support
  2. Titan X Pascal is 1200 USD @ NVidia site which exchanges to around 1600 CAD. If it is right then it could outperform Vega and 1080 Ti
  3. 7700k because it's a gaming PC
  4. 512GB SSD "only" because not all game benefit from SSD
  5. Since the inside did not look pretty then the outside sure did with Logitech peripherals (G910 for macro keys and sexy design, G502 because it's such a beast and I have tested that before, Logitech headset might not be the best but heck who cares and a sound system from Logitech).
  6. 64GB because why the fuck not. Also that's the max I can get with Skylake/Kaby Lake anyway
  7. Monitors are self explanatory. An Ultrawide for some cool games, high refresh rate monitor for competitive games and a 4K IPS for work (though I did pair a 7700k there)
  8. A sound card

This is under 3000 CAD. Which would convert to less than 2500 USD

Something like a 6800K (or similar Zen CPU), 64-128GB RAM, GTX 1070 or 1080 (or an equivalent Vega card) in an NZXT S340 case.

Peripherals would be something like 3 27" 4K IPS screens (not for gaming, I would be gaming on one), an MX Master and my current keyboard (Coolermaster Masterkeys Pro S RGB). Monitors would also be on a stand.

  1. 3 Optical drives: 1 with highest CD write speed (still nice to have), 1 with highest DVD write speed and 1 with Blu-Ray support

Yeah, I saw the budget limit too.....the darn CaseLab TX10 with pedestal top and bottom would eat half of that up.  :P   Heck, my main rig goes over his budget limit.

So, OP sets a $2500 budget limit, then proceeds to posting an $8300 PC as his choice. Seems legit.

My newly built PC is right around the $2500 limit, and, considering I put quite a lot of thought into it, probably is my dream PC at that price.

If I had $8300 to spend, however, things would look different :).

I put in the post that you can go over the budget if it is for somthing really custom or if you use your PC for a job or a hobby like modeling, graphic design or video editing

let's keep the budget under $2500 unless you have a specific purpose that needs a bigger budget like a custom water cooled build or a hobby/job like video editing

(Mines only over the $2500 budget because I do video editing and usually if someone does video editinng for a living their workstation is pretty expensive and even though I currently only do video production as a hobby currently if I was actually going to be doing it for a living this is what I would build)

I'm fortunate enough to basically have my dream PC!

CPU: Intel i7-6950X. (OC'd to 4.0 GHz, might try for 4.5 GHz)
RAM: 32GB Corsair Dominator Platinum DDR4 (3,000 MHz 15-17-17-35.) I plan to upgrade to 64GB soon
Motherboard: ASUS Rampage 5 Edition 10.
Storage: 500GB Intel 730 Series SSD, 6TB Western Digital Black. I'd like to add a 2TB Samsung 960 Pro, but, might go with a cheaper alternative if the speeds are close.
GPU's: Currently using two GTX 1080's. I might upgrade to two 1080 Ti's, or wait until the next-gen Titan equivalent's.
PSU: Corsair RM1000X

I've got a full custom loop using EK blocks. I'm just waiting for the Lian Li PC-O11 case to release, will do some mods to it, and transplant my build into that.

It's funny, I have an FX-8320 based system, which definitely isn't high end, but there's nothing it hasn't been able to do. There are some (relatively) good offers for i7-7700K upgrade, but I'm having hard time justifying it. I doubt Ryzen will change the market significantly (fuck, with 16 threads you're bound to wreck any benchmarks that benefit from such things). The one complain I have is that Oculus Rift spamming annoying announcements how my setup doesn't meet the minimum requirements (just because it's not Intel). I had a good summer (I'm a student so no full-time job), I could afford stuff but it's really difficult to justify anything. (I had been looking for a Galaxy S7 for  reasonable price until I saw an Oculus Rift for a really decent price.)

The one aspect I'd like to improve without having to work to deserve it would be storage, it's relatively cheap for sure, but there's so little reason to have 500 games installed all the time, so I haven't upgraded it. It would be nice to have everything installed, for sure. But uhh... feet on the ground etc.

I do wish I had picked a TV with HDR support, but I was happy enough and too lazy to take it back even when the same store placed 10" bigger TVs from the same manufacturer on sale for the same price I paid for mine (which was already 100€ cheaper than the list price, I'm pretty sure the guy who sold it to me knew they'd be on sale the next week...) So that's what I'd change if it wouldn't require any effort from my part.

WTF. Dream computer but have to keep it under $2500?  My current computer exceeds $5000. How can I contribute to this thread?

And why can yours be $8500?

*stomps feet like a child*

I7-7700k@5.1ghz + 1080ti @ 2050mhz + 32gbs Ram + 2TB SSD = CSGO

i7-6700k@4.9ghz + 980ti @ 1501mhz + 16gbs Ram + 1 TB SSD = Backup

i7-3770k@4.8ghz + 680 4gb + 32gbs Ram + 500gb SSD = Retired/Office work
