I can a little with screen but its not like how big the difference is with 16:9 vs 3:2. You honestly notice it more on the chassis than the screen. Its slimmer which takes up less desk so when you are at school or coffee shop you have more room for books or a mouse. Its a weird perk of 3:2 that stands out as much as the screen

The first monitor I ever bought was 16:10. I had no idea it was 16:10 until I arrived at my house. Was a great monitor and I actually really liked the aspect ratio. It's unfortunate that there aren't many monitors with that ratio being sold.

I am still hoping microsoft releases the surface monitor which is 3:2. I have been dying to get a 3:2 monitor but cannot find one that exist and will jump on the first one I find because 3:2 is really good depending on your work.

8:5 is a reduced fraction. It's been referred to as 16:10 for many years for a reason- it's 16:9 but taller and it's more of a variation on that- like if it was made in a void it would be 8:5. 

2:1 is not 18:9 btw. 
21:9 is the only aspect ratio that's a lie, all other ones I know of are near perfect ratio to resolution matches.

I would have stayed with 16:10 if I could but they don't really sell super high end gaming monitors with that aspect ratio. It is fairly common for professional monitors that are meant for really good color accuracy but those aren't really the type of monitors I want to gane on. Gotta have that high refresh rate.

Yah I pretty much want it for all workstation stuff. Gaming I don't care, but other stuff I really miss it, it's hard to even get good productivity monitors that are 16:10 these days.

16:10 isn't amazing for gaming but I like the benefit when not gaming. I just find it hard to play most games at 60hz now. Some slower paced games I can but the majority of games it just feels bad.

I can deal with black bars on the top and bottom way more than on the sides for some reason

Folks who are much larger/taller usually appreciate larger laptops like this.  They even somehow make them work on a plane.  I know it sounds silly; I'm certainly not going to go for a 17" laptop.  But I know at least 3 guys that would jump at this if ... it weren't running Windows.

Taller= longer arms = comfortable typing position is further away. 

Plus I used to have an 18.4 inch goliath of a laptop and it's by far one of my favorites I've ever owned

Saying a product category that doesn't match your subjective desires (but is liked by others) is stupid and selfish

That's a sexy beast, and in a pretty small form factor for a 17" laptop! I'd definitely consider that, especially if it manages to meet the battery life claims.

I find it interesting that LG is able to make such good laptops, but their phones are relatively meh. Even more perplexing is their great screens on everything but phones.

Hopefully Linus gets one of these in for review.

For me 15 inch laptops strike a good balance between productivity and portability.

Funnily enough, this is barely larger than a 15" laptop. So. That isn't really an issue. You'll notice weight more than you'll notice an additional inch in height.

It's got thunderbolt 3, so eGPU is an option. I wouldn't want a dGPU in there anyways, this laptops focuses on large screen, long battery life, and low weight. Adding a dGPU means extra space required not just for the chip PCB, but for the heatsink and fan to cool the dGPU. Ruining the low weight aspect. And shortening the battery life as many has mentioned.

I'm happy to be proven wrong, but Windows laptop makers have a bad habit of quoting battery life figures that only hold up so long as you never touch the machine.

because LG makes thin laptops with dGPU's in them. that UltraPC thing Linus looked at a while ago is a good example. i'd think that in a 17" machine a dGPU isn't that much to ask...

Yes, but this is also an LG Gram, where lightness is the selling point.  I'd question the wisdom of making a 17-inch ultralight, but if you're going to do it, a dedicated GPU likely isn't going to happen given how much weight it and the cooler will add.
