Didn't it get announced that the iPhone X took 35% of all cellphone revenue or profit for the quarter not too long ago?

It didn’t hit Apples expected numbers but it’s more successful than any one phone by a long shot from 2017 and 2018.

At the end of the day smartphones are just tools. I think it's really funny that people some sort of tribal war mentality. I remember months back a story from Russia where a drunk dude killed his friend over an AMD vs nVIDIA GPU argument. It's the same with some video games (Fn vs PUBG). 

 

One of the analysts I watch, Jim from AdoredTV just did a vid a few days ago complaining about AMD fans giving Steve from Hardware Unboxed a hard time over benchmarks of the ancient Sandy bridge & FX series he took in response to one of his videos. (I love both of their channels)

 

I admit even I am susceptible to this sort of behavior. I watch Lewis Rossman from time to time so his willingness to take a dump on Apple has rubbed off on me so I also tend to be critical of them.

It's not a decline. It's just that the expectations from investors are quite frankly so unreasonable to the point of being unrealistic: A successful company like Apple is expected to continuously grow otherwise in the financial word they're considered a failure.

 

They aren't just expected to maintain absolute dominance of the personal electronics market, shit the entire consumer electronics market at this point. They're expected to somehow keep growing when there's effectively not enough fucking people in the high-end phone market for them to do so.

 

This is how ridiculous the expectations are on a company like Apple. They're fine, they can loose billions in a single day and still be pretty much the richest company in the world by a comfortable margin and maintain market dominance for years to come. But people will continue to cry stupid shit like "The iphone X is dead" and "Apple is dying" because not continuing their meteoric rise is considered dying for venture capitalists and other bunch of stupid people.

Well, you're a bit off there.  It has nothing to do with venture capitalists, it's just the investors, the shareholders.  Apple, like so many other companies, is a publicly traded company and this means that it's honest to god primary objective is to ALWAYS increase it's value for the shareholders so the value of their investment continues to grow.  Even stagnation is unacceptable because that means the shareholders will be making zero.  The shareholders will eventually engage in 'drastic action' of their own if they feel that the board of directors have failed in their responsibility and have some or all of the board members replaced.  This is why it's big news when publicly traded companies contract at all or even just plateau, because this is news for the shareholders as it matters to them.

 

I've seen people here on this forum who don't really get that.  They think that a company going public means it's 'going big' and all that but it ALSO means the company is giving up control of itself..  There are even cases of companies, such as Dell, which bought back it's shares from shareholders so it could return to private ownership and answer only to themselves.

Honestly, I'm kind of impartial towards the display when compared to a really good IPS display, which is what Apple is using on all other devices -- the only real difference is a lack of true blacks, but I don't notice that much anyway in the midst of viewing content and only really notice it if I go out of my way to look for it. And it's only more power efficient when it's not fully lit, but iOS is still a very light-theme'd OS (unless I'm mistaken, the X has worse battery life than the 8+ while having a marginally larger battery, slightly smaller screen, FaceID sensors, and pretty much everything else being equal).

Yeah battery life is worse and I think the screen is bigger. It might be more narrow but longer I might be wrong though. Day to day use you won't notice the black but at night, dark theme apps, or watching movies you definitely notice it. I think it's smart though to have the 8 plus and X as people who don't want all the fancy gadgets of the future can stick to a cheaper alternative.

The screen on the X is larger on the diagonal at 5.8" vs. 5.5", but in terms of overall screen area, it's marginally smaller (5-10% iirc). 

 

EDIT: The 8 Plus has an area of 82.96cm2 while the X has an area of 83.08cm2 (minus the notch). So about the same size, but still worse battery life on the X most likely due to the OLED screen being less efficient with the color theme of iOS.

Good riddance. Galaxy note and iPhone X should all just died. They give excuses for other oems like Huawei and google to sell the same ridiculously price phone like mate 10 pro and pixel 2 xl

I'm still on my G3 0 complaints. Like I could get a new phone, but there's 0 reason for me to so far.

People usually buy these things on plans, but even then the prices lately are enough to scare off people from getting a minor upgrade.

muh specs 

Gaming and HTPC (reparations)- ASUS 1080, MSI X99A SLI Plus, 5820k- 4.5GHz @ 1.25v, asetek based 360mm AIO, RM 1000x, 16GB memory, 750D with front USB 2.0 replaced with 3.0  ports, 2 250GB 850 EVOs in Raid 0 (why not, only has games on it), some hard drives

Screens- Acer preditor XB241H (1080p, 144Hz Gsync), LG 1080p ultrawide, (all mounted) directly wired to TV in other room

Stuff- k70 with reds, steel series rival, g13, full desk covering mouse mat

All parts black

Workstation(desk)- 3770k, 970 reference, 16GB of some crucial memory, a motherboard of some kind I don't remember, Micomsoft SC-512N1-L/DVI, CM Storm Trooper (It's got a handle, can you handle that?), 240mm Asetek based AIO, Crucial M550 256GB (upgrade soon), some hard drives, disc drives, and hot swap bays

Screens- 3  ASUS VN248H-P IPS 1080p screens mounted on a stand, some old tv on the wall above it. 

Stuff- Epicgear defiant (solderless swappable switches), g600, moutned mic and other stuff. 

Laptop docking area- 2 1440p korean monitors mounted, one AHVA matte, one samsung PLS gloss (very annoying, yes). Trashy Razer blackwidow chroma...I mean like the J key doesn't click anymore. I got a model M i use on it to, but its time for a new keyboard. Some edgy Utechsmart mouse similar to g600. Hooked to laptop dock for both of my dell precision laptops. (not only docking area)

Shelf- i7-2600 non-k (has vt-d), 380t, some ASUS sandy itx board, intel quad nic. Currently hosts shared files, setting up as pfsense box in VM. Also acts as spare gaming PC with a 580 or whatever someone brings. Hooked into laptop dock area via usb switch

No one cares. They dropped it by $300 bucks and so they redeemed themselves. They are a less than 1 year old company so who cares their first phone sells poorly. Hardware and software wise, it is a flagship, a very affordable one at that.

I like how that's redeeming themselves....they didn't drop the price to be nice. They dropped the price because they wouldn't stay in business very long otherwise. The fact remains that they will charge as much as they can get away with -- and as such they're no better than Samsung, Apple, Huawaei, Google, etc...
