Sites that don't use google search

Any sites that does not use google search? Their results are getting crappier by the second, so is there one that don't use it? Most of them still grab the same search result.

For example. I search "thumbtack", a thing use to pin stuffs. Instead of getting the actual thing, all I got was a bunch of social media garbage.

I'm confused as to what exactly you're asking?

 

Do you want an alternate search engine? Or do you want websites that are not indexed by Google? Two very very different things.

You need to learn google-fu... 

 

It's a bit of an art but it makes life easier

Why?

Back then google search "thunbtack" you get the actual thing, a wiki artcle and some pictures. Now you get garbage result about some social website. If i want to search for the website, I'll search "thumbtack social website".

Google will tailor their search results to what they think most people will find more relevant. Clearly, more people searching for "thumbtack" want to visit or learn about the site, rather than the pin.

 

Why would you want to know about sites that aren't indexed by Google? You realize that's basically the "Deep Web", right?

 

Most sites are indexed by multiple search engines.

I ran into this issue recently, actually. Tried to look up what a thumbtack dated 1944 would be worth, as it fell off my desk, and I got advertisements for magicians from a hiring website known as thumbtack. Still haven't found the worth of the thing.....

LTT is having voting poll, asking which member pins their navigation bar, so I decided to search that thing on upper left side of the forum, called a thumbtack, to learn more info about it.

I don't care about the dark web.  I want to be able to search, what I'm looking for, without having to pull my hair out.

Try "duckduckgo.com" and "bing.com".

I did, duckduckgo came up with the same results.

Bing slightly better, got what I'm looking for, near the bottom of the page.

I tried some  pre-google search engines

Altavista - it's gone

Hotbot - uses bing index

Lycos - same crap results like google

Northernlight - used to have a search engine.

This was just a rage thread because you aren't working with the search engine to find results...

 

It works with algorithms to decide which results are most relevant based on how many people visit that result. You are able to remove certain words from a search and drastically narrow your results. And adding relevant key words (e.g. Stationery thumb tacks) will yield better results. Yes it takes a few minutes to learn how it works but being able to Google search is very handy...
