How dangerous is it to plug in Windows XP

How dangerous is it to plug a fresh install of Windows XP SP1 into the Internet and use it as a daily driver??

If you have a xp system on the network, you can basically get full control and admin cmd prompt over the network. Same with websites(esp on ie).

 

Basically, don't use it as a daily driver, use linux.

There will be problems, first off, There are NO security updates for Windows XP. Chrome WILL not work and even trying to access Google will not work. Most programs won't work anymore. Trust me, I've tried it a couple of times.

I would do it, unless you separate the XP machine from the main network.

You could use malwarebyte to block off harmful site though , downloading and running google chrome might help with the javascript stuff

I work for a POS company and POSReady OS is still quite vulnerable especially to ransomware

Won't help at all. The vulnerabilities are in the os, not in the malware.

I wouldn't trust it one bit. I could easily install some bad code into a program. No way there would be a fix. I won't be too surprised if malwarebytes would even work with XP

almost anything is vulnerable to randonsomeware, its running as your user and has access to all your files. Unless you check for patterns of changing files, or sandbox, there isn't much you can do.

What are you talking about? I'm talking about a home user. Not a company, if that is what you're implying. Like I said, Most software, if not all, will not work. Show me and give an example of software that works with Windows 10/8.1/7 that will work with XP?

My PC is probably filled with virus that aren't detectable by Antivirus from all the 3rd party utilities I download

Ermm Malwarebyte and most other Antivirus are compatible with windows XP , I know a list of stuff that can run from Window 10 to XP without any issue , it really comes down to whether the developer wants to add in support for older computer

I wouldn't log into emails, banking and social media accounts on it. If you don't want to pay for an OS just go learn to use some linux distro or pirate windows 7. Using windows XP as a daily driver in 2017 is pretty stupid unless you need it for some specific reason.

If you really don't want to pay for an OS , you can also try free OS such as Linux or Chrome OS , it's probably the closest free OS you can get for a window lookalike .
