What's the most odd tech problem you've ever had? Looking for odd explainable/hard to explain problems people have had.

 

This was a lenovo I was imaging at work. There's a plastic seat the hard drive sits in that clips in to plastic clips in the case. If the seat was snapped in place, the machine wouldn't boot. It it was unlatched, it worked no problem. To this day I don't understand what was happening. After this video I'm posting i went on to remove the metal springs from the seat, swap out power cables and sata cables, and put a thin rubber layer across the bottom of the hdd seat. The problem persisted. If the HDD was unlatched I could flip flop swivel toss roll spin balance it, and it had not problems. The second that latch clicked. DEAD.  I even pulled one of the HDD seats from another one and had the same problem.

I used some older components I got to build my sister a basic PC, nothing special AM2 athon 2Ghz 1 1/2 GB of RAM, 160GB HDD and a GT 610. All of the hardware works so I thought it would be better to give it to them instead of having it sit in my closet. Few months later I get a call telling me that the GPU is no longer displaying anything, I walk my sister through the troubleshooting steps to see what's up and no dice the system will only display through the onboard video. I pick up the PC and test it myself and bam it works perfectly fine, I run it for about 12 hours before giving it back to make sure and after that I give it back. They get it home and I get a call telling me that it isn't working, I pick it back up and bam it's not actually working so I build them another system around my 3258 and u3 plus and they take it home. two months later I was cleaning and I decide to try to figure out exactly what went wrong with the athlon PC because the 610 works fine and the fucking thing works perfectly now.

did you try it with the cover back on. I have see PC's with switches on the cover that keep the pc from booting 

like the switch on a dryer, Its super stupid but i have see them 

also what is the caddy making contact with?

That video reminded me of when I used to work with old HP/Dell Inspiron computers. Little tip for anyone that works with them, If you turn it on and you hear the CPU fan speeding up and keep speeding up TURN IT OFF! the PSU is about to blow and they are so loud when they do.

Yeah, my blue yeti, would randomly have the levels go up and down and it would occasionally mute itself. I fixed it via a system restore.

I did boot it with the case closed and HDD latched, that's actually how I found the problem. It just wouldn't turn on anymore, so I opened it up and then this all happened.

When my laptop is leeping or hybernating, and i turn my fan on. The fan will turn on (and the laptop too).

I have a laptop that the original hardrive will not work, unless you take the drivecage off. Any other hardrive works perfectly fine. The original hardrive will work for any other computer in the house with the cage, but 1 computer.

Is it bad that my dream setup only costs a few thousand not counting the obutto?

i installed windows on an old dell tower, and the resolution was stuck on 640x480. no matter what i did, i couldn't change it. until i plugged in the floppy drive.  :ph34r:

Why one of my USB 2.0 ports keeps dying and resurrecting itself in Windows 8.1 Pro (1 of the rear ports on my mobo)

I got a WD Green 3TB drive for a friend's build and it wouldn't show up in the bios, until I dropped it on the tile floor from 5 feet up. Has been working fine for 2 years.

Yeah, hardware does act stubborn. U just gotta show it who's boss

So when I built my rig I had some BSODs. All of them were memory related. So I loaded up memtest86, and got errors. I ran it with one DIMM, everything was fine. Ran it with the other DIMM, also fine. Ran it with both DIMMs but with slots swapped, everything is fine. All I had to do was swap the DIMMs.

My iPod have started failing on me (harddrive based one).

 

Harddrive clicking when it's trying to spin up. After whacking it a couple of times on my leg/knee it boots up just fine. It's nine years old, and counting.

I'm not sure how much this counts.. My Logitech G710+, the 2, 3, and 4 keys quit working. (Not on the numpad.) It was during a game of League. It didn't work inside the game, or out. Yet the numpad was fine. I pressed all of the buttons I know to toggle certain features. (Like if you press right ctrl) and nothing made a different. Number Lock didn't do anything either. I unplugged it and plugged it back in and it has been fine.

One of my friends was trying to overclock his hard drive and he spun it so fast the sensor couldn't read it.

cpu wouldn't post until i moved the chassis fan into fan1 instead of chassis 1 fan header... the manual says fill cpu fan+ chassis 1 then others...
