Not necessarily bad but it's not as fun as a manual or an auto transmission, acceleration can sometimes be a bit slower. As a car for trips and just daily driving around a CVT is fine, the CVT's Subaru uses are well made and up there with Toyota or Honda.

1. Out of curiousity, what mechanical keyswitch types have you and have you not tried?

IMO, I would rather have a good rubber dome over any linear mechanical switch (e.g. MX Red) and tactile switches (e.g. MX Brown) are okay, but not great.

Mechanical keyboards shine when it comes to clicky switches.

 

2. W10 vs. W7 is something I have thought a lot about..

There are a lot of things W10 does better than W7.. W10 is a lot faster, but I don't like how they made certain programs not show up in search. E.g. 'Disk management' can't be found in search, but can be found when right clicking the start button.

That almost makes me feel like they don't know how to show it up on the search window. The start menu is (IMO) quite a bit better though, which is to say.. It's the same with some added features that can be turned off.

It does feel like W10 has more glitches and general.. Weirdness. But that might just be confirmation bias.

 

3. Fully agree with this. Personally I feel like that is what RGB is for; to get whatever color you want (as opposed to in the past when you peripherals were always red or green).

Which model are you looking at? The Impreza and Crosstrek have manuals if you're willing to deal with shifting (and possibly learning) but only on the lower trims.

Anyways the CVT should be fine. The older ones now have an extended warranty as well.

Just be sure to get an inspection if buying used if you didn't know that already.

It's gonna be a new '19 model. I've always wanted something that was truly mine from the get go, and that I can say every mile on it is my own. Should be a good purchase I think, though I've never owned their vehicles before.

I hate cloud services and ChromeOS, specifically chromebooks.

 

Cloud services like Google Stadia and others, are going to lead, eventually, to the demise of traditional PC gaming and the further ruination of the video game industry. You will have even less control over the games you "own" (you won't own them and will have to pay to access them, forever) and modding will largely die off as a result.

 

ChromeOS, and more specifically Chromebooks, are relying on the ignorance and idiocy of educational institutions to make money. They are handicapping kids by teaching them a computer environment that is limited, and largely does not exist outside of academic environments.

 

Oh, and online multiplayer has ruined the video game industry, as I predicted back when Halo 2 got popular for online multiplayer.

Always on displays are just a waste of battery life. Most of the time you're not looking at your phone when it's off and it you really need to see the time, you could just get a watch or something.

my current keyboard ("Microsoft Modern Keyboard") is the best keyboard i've ever laid my hands on, better than my MX blue, MX brown, Steelseries hybrids, Razer Green and al other standard dekstop keyboards i've tried.

1. All drivers should be required to drive a manual for their first year of driving. They'll be required to maintain more focus on the road and it makes texting almost impossible for them.

Chromebooks are tanks. I own one only because I found it in the garbage, covered in some weird goop and 20-30lbs of books/papers. The previous owner clearly didn't take care of it, but it still rocks and rolls without a hitch.

Back when I had my Droid Turbo, they had a neat feature where you could just wave your hand in front of the screen and it would briefly show your info, instead of it always being on. I don't know if there's a phone today that'll do that, though some will do it if you knock on it or something but I liked just waving my hand, seemed easier.

I repair small electronics and let me tell ya, the day that screen goes out, if it's not covered under warranty is a bad day. Color distortion, dead pixels, touch reception, burn-in, just a whole host of problems that could be solved with a physical button.

I got a quite a few.

1) Vega wasn't bad and will age very well as DX12 and vulkan become more adopted.

2)Nvidia will be struggling with RDNA for the foreseeable future. Turing will be struggling against RDNA on the gaming side while Arcturus (MegaVega) will be crushing it on the compute/datacenter. 

3)Many people don't need ATX, MATX will be more than enough for cpu,gpu,cooler so on. Unless you need 3 or more add in cards MATX will be a better more affordable for budget people. And shifting to that standard will have more manufacturers bring higher end boards to that standard. 

4) 120hz will be the next standard. 60 is going the way of 30Hz. (I was still adamant about 60Hz but got to try 120Hz and now I get it.)

5) Intel on desktop will essentially be bulldozer especially when Zen 3 launches. But intel on laptop will be hands down the only options especially with foveros and the Intel version of "Little Big" with Willow Cove Cores with a larger highly binned Rocket Lake Cores.

Feel free to rebuttal I am always willing to hear some fresh perspectives.

I saw this movie on opening night and it is easily in the top 5 worst movies Ive ever seen. Just a giant steaming pile of garbage. I was shocked when I saw people having positive responses/reviews of it

I can't tell you how many I've seen that come in because the battery has "gone bad".

 

There's nothing actually wrong with the battery, the chromebook just won't see it anymore no matter what you do. Plug in a different battery, and it works fine. Plug the old battery into a different chromebook, and that works fine. Plug the old battery back into its original chromebook, and it still wont see it.

 

Admittedly, some brands of them see less problems than others. The one rhyming with Hell is the worst.

I've never actually seen a Samsung Chromebook. Just Lenovo and Dell.

You're an adult, so I assume you aren't setting your backpack down hard. Or just flinging it across the room.

 

This problem was fairly big with the 6440 and 6430 Latitude models. The frame of the laptop was weak around the DC port and the VGA card on the back left and right corners of the units.

 

And again, it was repeated strikes daily, over a decent amount of time. Those models were already 2 years old (I think) when I started at my current employer.

 

This was accompanied with a problem with the VGA cards in the laptops as well. The internal connector on the card would break from this same issue.

 

Not as much of a problem now with newer models.

 

(now we're just getting into the minutiae of laptop repair).

 

We needed to hit about 250 repairs a day on chrome books to stay current, about 200 on windows machines. We had more than 30 but less than 40 technicians, and we were struggling. Partially due to parts constraints.

I will agree 100% with this statement. They gave us chromebooks in High School and well it was free so I would smash it on desk corner, throw it down stairs, and pour my water on the keyboard as a joke. Thing lasted 3 years of constant abuse. I mean like violent abuse. Like go to shop class find a 2X4 and javelin throw it at your chromebook for fun. Or be used as a sled in the winter time.

And people like you are why I have to pay an additional "food tax" on top of sales tax, if I get fast food in the county I live in.

 

That tax was specifically added to pay for the public schools laptop program (in this county). It literally just says "food tax" on the receipts.

 

And I absolutely support getting rid of it, and the laptop program.

 

Edit: I should add, these school systems REFUSE to enforce their own policy of charging students after the first breakage. Every kid gets one free repair. After that, according to policy, the parents are supposed to pay for the damage, the parents even sign a thing promising to do so.

 

The schools refuse to deny the child a new laptop for fear of bad optics, if the parents don't pay.

 

Personally, I'd be fine with the help desk people at the schools hitting the children with the laptops. Not all of them, but the ones that go through 20+ in 4 years of high school, sure.

 

If I had been given a free laptop when I was in school, and I had purposefully broken it, my dad would have beaten my ass. (kids also break them on purpose to delay standardized yearly testing)

 

And I would have fucking deserved it.

 

Additional fact: Middle schools break more laptops than high schools, not sure why. This is based on my observation of three different major school systems.

Hahaha you have a lot more wrong with your country if that's how they are solving problems like that. I'm all for kids getting chromebooks and laptops. The educational aspect is lighty ears ahead and the ease of teaching and resource savings on paper and pencils negates any additional tax. This can translate to any medium. Give kids blackboards and tax payers pay for it but Johnny keeps using his as a skateboard ramp and Sarah uses hers as a Frisbee. Give them free notebooks and Phillip uses his to make paper airplanes and Sally origami. Kids are curious and chromebooks are pretty cheap when bought in bulk. I would rather give a kid a chromebook for $199 than $1200 iPads or $3K macbook pros
