Honda getting their "Urban EV" ready for production

I'm not sure the RWD will be noticeable. I doubt turning the stability control off will be an option, nor are electric motors linear torque conducive to steering a car on the throttle.

The interior does look cool, kinda Scandinavian with the wood effect trim. Another advantage it has over the Leaf is that's quite a bit shorter, could save 15 minutes looking for a parking space in a congested city.

It would also save you 15 minutes looking for your car in a parking lot. Instantly visible and easy to find! xD

it looks kinda like a 1st gen civic (which isn't a bad thing) I wouldn't buy one though. Electric cars aren't really my thing. I'm a car guy so loud cars are kinda my thing ;)

As @S w a t s o n mentions, it's rated for 200km, so I'm not sure what the range issue is that you're referring to? 200km is actually massive overkill for an urban dweller (or even a suburban dweller). Most people drive within or under 40km per day for commute (including round trip), so plus errands, groceries, going to the movies, etc, 200km is plenty. Even if you consider reduced range during Winter, let's be really unfair and say you only get 100km range. That's still plenty.

Anyone who buys this is going to be charging it overnight every single day anyway. That means every morning they wake up to a car with a "full tank", so to speak. Only road trips would be a challenge for this car.

I should have added the word additional range, 200km just doesn't seem far enough. Closer to 300km would be more acceptable IMO. 40KM is all fine and dandy, however add in AC consumption, as well as time spent sitting (let's be real, if you're in a city it's not necessarily the distance, but time you have to factor in) it starts making a difference.

200 km, even with AC blasting (or the heater in the winter) is still massive overkill for an urban commute. Plus every time you slow down to stop, you're regenerating energy. Not a lot for each stop, but it does add up.

I agree that personally I would want more than 200 km range, but it would only inconvenience me occasionally for long trips. But, for a very large chunk of the population, that 200 km range won't be an issue.

The Prius is a fantastic practical car - and the current generation of them looks pretty decent in styling.

Imagine how insecure you have to be in your masculinity that you have to attack men based on their choice of car, especially when it's likely a smarter choice than anything you own.

well thats how society works. we dont always go for whats "smarter". honestly for city use a bike would be the smartest thing to do. also everyone on here everone is always desiring that fancy super specs system. also not "smart". the smart choice wouldve been to make it look more appealing so more people would buy it and there go electric. but somehow theres this unwritten law that e-cars need be totally different looking than regular cars and then the this happens. i think most of them actually try making them uglier so people stay with gasoline *cough* not to be a conspiracy theorist or something *cough* big oil *cough*

This is a European city car and a nod to the original Civic, so I'd say it looks just fine.  If you go to a major European urban area you'll see loads of cars that are as small or smaller (Fiat 500s, Minis, Smart Fortwos, that sort of thing).

That and Honda has made clear that this isn't the sum total of its EV efforts.  It has a sportier coupe concept (seemingly likely to become a production car), and it's safe to presume you'll see larger four-door cars as well.

I always hated the Prius styling, and hated how many hybrids copied it.

but I don't see what is so bad about the Honda E, it is just not a aggressive style, but is doesn't look like its lost all character like the Prius when it started out.

EDIT: The Prius started out as a soulless commuter car look IMO, This Honda has a futuristic simplistic look that reflects back to the original civic. And to your city car comment about bikes are better, many cities are not as conducive to bikes where you might need 5-20 mile range for most shopping needs or work. which is what these electric cars are marketed towards. Unlike NYC where you live and shop in walking/biking/train distance.

Looks like a cross between a Jimny and an Ignis. I like the concept and the quirky look, not sure if I'd buy one for myself though

Bikes are practical in some cases, but not always. For example, in cities without separated bike lanes, driving a bike during the winter is straight up dangerous. Especially if they're squeezing onto the same road I'm driving, yet the normal shoulder position the bike drives in, is not a snowbank, so they're creeping closer and closer to being fully in my lane.

Also distance wise, it can be impractical to bike if you live in a larger city.

It's a good idea, but not always ideal.

If you have to get a city car, a Prius is hard to beat.

I was definitely not fond of the old styling, but it's gotten better.

It's obviously a design choice to make it flat like that at the end. I believe it has to do with maximizing the efficiency of space for the trunk/hatch.

Well, I live in North America... so. 100% doesn't apply. The Prius to us, is already a smaller car. The Honda is absolutely ridiculously small.

So in North American cities, the Prius is literally the perfect car.

Remember, people are driving around these same cities with F-150's w/ crew cabs and 3-row SUV's, etc.

yeah but thats america. obviously as european the american market is not my first thought. over here where people are regular sized and therefore drive regular sized cars we are literally laughing our asses off how big some of the american SUVs are. literally lets take the living room couch and put wheels on it. steering? corner handling? braking? nah lets make it 2,5 tons and so damn big you can only park it in a Semi Truck parking space. honestly i really dont get why everything over there needs to be supersized. really feels like compensating sometimes.

(we had neighbour with an american car import company at some point so i got to ride along and later drive a couple)

American logic, I am looking for a good car for a my city life style, better get that full size SUV. :^)

Most cars are designed for the American market first, due to most cars are sold to Americans.

Most of the love for SUVs is that our roads are bigger, we have more space, and it easier to move stuff around. (kids, shopping, moving, vacations, ect)

also many like the feel being "king of the road", the "safety" feel they get, and the idea its "good off road" not that most SUVs really are that good in these areas.
