MacOS Mojave, more like MacOS Vista...

It's been a few months since I've installed a brand new macOS Mojave and I have to admit - what was Windows Vista to Windows XP, is macOS Mojave to macOS High Sierra. It turned my, reasonably aged, but still usable workstation MacBook Pro 2013 into poor performing Macbook Air that can handle only basic workload. No idea why or what's going on, as the reports are all over the place, aand it looks like Apple doesn't know either. 

And I'm not the only one.

Maybe it's "preserving battery life" like the Iphones did a while back.  hehe  Kidding.

Well Apple wants you to buy some new hardware from them.  Are we theorizing that this is their method of doing that or are there issues with the OS that need to be fixed?

Probably less optimized for older hardware. I've been running the developer betas of MacOS Mojave on my 2016 mbp since it's release in around June and its been much faster than than High Sierra. Maybe bring it into an Apple Store and see if they'll do anything or downgrade the OS.

I'm glad the 2011 MacBook airs I just fished out to be repurposed only get to use up to Sierra, if Mojave isn't playing nice with old stuff

thx for the info! thought about upgrading to Mojave but my old system (2012 mbp) got a considerable performance boost with Sierra (I'm not even on high sierra) and I don't wanna miss that!

Though the dark mode is tempting

Normally I'd agree. But, with the crap going on with the latest windows update, I think I'd take slower performance over all my files being deleted.

I've been using the Dev Preview since it came out. Actually increased my performance in games like SC2 that support metal. Works like a charm on my 2016MBP, no one in my family who uses macs have supported a slowdown.

Well sure, just remember it's not every one who has issues, in fact it is still a small amount, like the "greatest" minority... I'm already on 1809 build and it works flawlessly to me... and that sweet sweet native Dark Theme for explorer.exe makes it all worth it.

 

Then again OS really is a preference choice, I also dislike plenty on Win 10 but at least it gives me the freedom to change it to behave and look a lot like Win 7 did mitigating most issues.

Sounds like a personal issue. Mojave has been a much improved upgrade over High Sierra in every category for my 2016 nTB MBP.

me and another 500+ personal issues. It's either crappy hardware, or crappy software that causes the system to not function properly.

Could be as simple as doing a reinstall from recovery. Updates can go wrong and make things slow:

Sometimes you just gotta start fresh.

I reinstalled Mojave, we shall see.

2012 Mac Mini here. Updated to Mojave a couple of weeks ago mostly for the dark mode. Compared to High Sierra, Mojave is relatively more stable for me and has been a better experience so far. Sierra was horrible. I had multiple crashes on it every single day.

Never had single issue with Sierra. With Mojave the UI got sluggish

so as you can see it varies. 

version X performs bad on one certain model of a machine does not make version X bad.

 

2017 non touch bar macbook pro.

High sierra was garbage. Went to apple store 2,3 times cos installing the OS caused too much issue for me. 

Mojave was great. 

 

Maybe you should try reinstall it OR roll back to the older version that works for you.

I have a Mid-2012 MacBook Air with a core i5 8 gigs of ram with macOS Mojave, and have no issues. sure, I cant really hungry task, but lets be real, its a dual core processor from 2012. anyhow, usually my computer sits at 60 to 65 degrees celsius when doing basic tasks like web surfing, video streaming, and going through mails. when I start using photoshop on my second monitor (a 1080p monitor) the processor kicks up to 85 until I boost the fan speed to 100% at which point it goes back down to 65-70 degrees. what I'd recommend would be to restart the computer if it hasnt already been done, install "iStat menu" and buy a key to use it ( about 15$, usable on 5 apple devices) to have a clearer idea of what is happening, and maybe check on activity monitor ?

 

Edit : had this computer for about a year and a half now, had High Sierra before, and was having the same temperatures as I have now, only have the processor being used a tad bit more while idle ( at about 10% usage while at 5-6% before)

My opinion is that Apple has done the same thing to Mac OS with Mojave that Michael Jackson did to his face. Fixed it until it's broken. I would prefer to go back to Sierra but I really don't want to reinstall everything from scratch.

I haven't noticed this at all. Infact, Mojave has been the best performing OS for my Late 2009 Macbook since Snow Leopard. El Capitan, Sierra, and High Sierra (HS especially) chugged hard
