This has got to be dumbest thing I have heard in a while.

The card is perfectly fine. It's price - performance ratio isn't as good as the 1060.

Jay Deah reacted to RushFan in How Much Would an i5-2500K @4.5Ghz Bottleneck a GTX 1070Ti?
There might be a few stutters but I think the 1070Ti would be only a little held back by the CPU. 1440p is quite demanding though so I'm not too sure.
If I were you I'd get the 1070Ti now and save up for a new CPU and motherboard (and possibly RAM) later.

Jay Deah reacted to Biggerboot in Do I buy used 1080 Ti FTW for $380?
Seems too low to be legit, but if this is for a local listing you could ask the seller for proof that it works or if he'll let you check the card out in person first.

Personally I got a 1070 recently for the same price and with the same sort of use you're describing.  Video cards age all the same, but you can count on getting about 5-7 years of driver support.  You can look at it as an investment in that sense, but price:performance in that many years is an unknown.

are you sure that power cable is plugged in the right way round?

it shouldn’t fit in the wrong way round so may be a dumb question but I can’t see the clip.

also try it without the power plugged in. It should boot with a black screen with white text saying ‘ok stupid, you forgot to plug in the power cable’ at least if you see that you know the card is alive

Jay Deah got a reaction from Blitzkriegg in Should I first change the graphics to the 1060 or replace the cpu, motherboard, and ram first?
First check if your motherboard will actually support a pascal GPU.  The 600series cards were the last to fully support non-UEFI bios and your CPU comes from a time where UEFI wasn’t on everything.

if it is compatible, then I would upgrade GPU first then the rest. You will get a bigger performance boost (in games) from the GPu upgrade and later when you have more money to upgrade the rest of the platform you can keep using the same GPu.

then ehy are you going 2011? Thats a pretty power hungy system. Go with a ryzen based system if you care about power and sell the ram you have.

Jay Deah reacted to Eliptic in GTX 1050 Ti (6GB VRAM) or a GTX 1060(3GB)?
No, because he said 6GB *VRAM* Meaning Virtual, so some of the memory would be located externally, rather than within the gpu

well that cpu is good but 824 mhz ram?? why not 1333? that is going to slow you down (budget-gaming wise)

    buy a ssd and a 1050ti = 200-250$
buy a ssd 970 second hand
buy a ssd 16gb ram at 1333 minimum (i thought ddr was 1333 min ) look for 970 4gb second hand

The price of that card and price of aio stuff... Why not just upgrade to a card that's going to cost what the aio route will plus sell it for a upgrade... At the end of the day that card doesn't need a aio.

    Sounds like you’ll be fine.

i personally run a 5ghz OC delidded 8700k and 1080ti all cooked by a single 360 rad (EK MLC Phoenix AIO) and it cools it all absolutely fine. I’m sure your 420 setup will be more than enough.

just remember you’ll need to run the case in the ‘alternate layout’ to fit the rad in andyoull also need to lose the dvd drive bay
