Should I first change the graphics to the 1060 or replace the cpu, motherboard, and ram first?

My pc is an i5-2300 with ddr3 ram and a 650ti.

Should i replace the grapfics card first to a gtx 1060 and then save up money to replace the cpu (i5-7400), motherboard and ram

or replace first the cpu, motherboard and ram and then the graphics card?

I use my pc more for games, but for everything in geral

Im from portugal and i dont want to spend more than 300 Euros for the cpu, mobo and ram, the graphics card will be a 1060

You can grab a RX 580 4GB and save some money without sacrificing performance and later upgrade the CPU and mobo.

Is that 300€ total for the upgrade?

Definitely would not recommend 7400. It is pointless to go for older gen rn. You get much better value from 8400, six cores, probably even better price. I would probably rather go for the gpu upgrade and then cpu as the jump from 650ti to 1060 is quite significant. i5-8400/b360 mobo/8gb ram upgrade would be probably around 300 euro.

In your case, the RX 580 sounds like a more sensible choice that the 1060.

Further down the line you will then be able to upgrade your CPU, motherboard and RAM. However, I would suggest buying the most recent Coffee Lake processors instead of the previous Kaby Lake ones. You get a more recent architecture, 2 extra cores and a faster clock speed.

Do you mean the 3 GB version? If so, then I would not recommend that one though. You should get the 1060 6 GB instead.

The 1080? Then take the 1080.

The 1060 6GB? Take the RX 580. (I think that might be a typo)

Pretty much identical. Though you get freesync wich is present on pretty much all lower end monitors.

The 3GB 1060 is something to avoid as it doesnt represent good value for money

The 3GB 1060 also has a lower clock speed and worse processor on it than the 6GB version. It’s effectively a different card with the same name.

It’s an awful buy.

Current Build:

CPU: Ryzen 7 5800X3D

GPU: RTX 3080 Ti FE

RAM: 32GB G.Skill Trident Z CL16 3200 MHz

Mobo: Asus Tuf X570 Plus Wifi

CPU Cooler: NZXT Kraken X53

PSU: EVGA G6 Supernova 850

Current Laptop:

Model: Asus ROG Zephyrus G14

CPU: Ryzen 9 5900HS

No. It's much better than the 1060 3GB and about the same as the 6GB. The 3GB has limited VRAM, lower clock and less CUDA cores.

Hardware Unboxed did an RX 580 vs. GTX 1060 video recently to revisit those cards and test their driver improvements.

For both cards, it was a case of “you win some, you lose some.” It depends more on which games you play, but overall the cards will deliver similar frame rates.

I think the RX 580 had the most winning games, though.

Avoid the 3GB 1060 like the plague. Get the 6GB version the 580 is a good option but can work out more depending on location. Also have you considered a 1600x Ryzen. There are alot of good bundles at the moment which include RAM and Mobo

It is definitely worth getting the 6 GB version. This card can be seen as kind of a “1060 Ti” having not only more VRAM but also more power (CUDA cores 1280 vs. 1152) compared to the 3 GB version. The performance boost is often worth the small price difference.

The 3 GB one should be avoided!

Both cards perform about equal. Depending on the game that you consider, one graphics card is a bit better than the other one, but not by much. The 580 has the major advantage of having FreeSync readily available on a lot of monitors.

If you have freesync. The RX 580 is a nobrainer.

the rx 580 8gb is on sale here, but I can only buy it in September, if in September it is still in promotion I buy it, if it is not, I buy the gtx 1060, because it is 80 euros promotion and I prefer 1060 than give these 80 euros

To be honest, if you don't really care about FreeSync, then get whatever graphics card if cheaper. They are both about equal in performance, it just depends on the game that you consider.

First check if your motherboard will actually support a pascal GPU.  The 600series cards were the last to fully support non-UEFI bios and your CPU comes from a time where UEFI wasn’t on everything.

if it is compatible, then I would upgrade GPU first then the rest. You will get a bigger performance boost (in games) from the GPu upgrade and later when you have more money to upgrade the rest of the platform you can keep using the same GPu.
