Ideas for upgrading my PC at minimal cost

Hello all,

I want to upgrade my PC but want to keep the expense down. I was wondering if my motherboard is going to really restrict me.

I dont play very intense games. Mainly CS:go, World of Warship, World of Tanks. But would like to be able to start streaming.

well that cpu is good but 824 mhz ram?? why not 1333? that is going to slow you down (budget-gaming wise)

buy a ssd and a 1050ti = 200-250$
buy a ssd 970 second hand
buy a ssd 16gb ram at 1333 minimum (i thought ddr was 1333 min ) look for 970 4gb second hand

Case: Corsair 760T  |  Psu: Evga  650w p2 | Cpu-Cooler : Noctua Nh-d15 | Cpu : 8600k  | Gpu: Gygabyte 1070 g1 | Ram: 2x8gb Gskill Trident-Z 3000mhz |  Mobo : Aorus GA-Z370 Gaming K3 | Storage : Ocz 120gb sata ssd , sandisk 480gb ssd , wd 1gb hdd | Keyboard : Corsair k95 rgb plat. | Mouse : Razer deathadder elite | Monitor: Dell s2417DG (1440p 165hz gsync) & a crappy hp 24' ips 1080p | Audio: Schiit stack + Akg k712pro + Blue yeti.

I think your pc looks good and might serve you well for another couple years. You might consider a new budget video card, some 1050Ti has double the video ram you have and performs decent for 1080p at medium for very little price

824MHz DDR is 1648MHZ, I think its pretty decent.

You are pretty much doomed, you can still upgrade things but i wouldnt expect any huge gains from upgrading on this platform, you can always buy a bigger GPU and also stream via NVENC from it, but dont expect any huge gains in gaming performance especially not in titles like CSGO.

Since your hardware isnt that great putting money into this PC can be very wasteful. A GPU or SSD doesnt hurt because you can just use it in your next PC.. though.

Problems are:

- lowend board, bad for overclocking since its the LX version.

- CPU not overclockable

- slow ram

- slow GPU

- no SSD

you can literally buy everything new and put your two HDDs in raid into the new build...  and dump/sell the rest.

CPU: Ryzen 7 5800x3D | MoBo: MSI MAG B550 Tomahawk | RAM: G.Skill F4-3600C15D-16GTZ @3800CL16 | GPU: RTX 2080Ti | PSU: Corsair HX1200 |

Case: Lian Li 011D XL | Storage: Samsung 970 EVO M.2 NVMe 500GB, Crucial MX500 500GB | Soundcard: Soundblaster ZXR | Mouse: Razer Viper Mini | Keyboard: Razer Huntsman TE Monitor: DELL AW2521H @360Hz |

You dont want that motherboard, its bad. Get a z370-A instead only 20bucks more and much better.

wow, bit of a jump there, the CPU alone will be more than the hole upgrade budget!

if you do want to keep your 3770 system (which is more than capable of AAA games @ 1080p then i agree you'll want a new GPU at least a 1050ti maybe a 1060 if you can stretch, and then an SSD. the GPU will make games run much much much better and the SSD will affect the overall responsiveness of the system.

perhaps you could upgrade in parts? buy the 860 EVO and GTX1060 now, put them in your current PC and THEN decide if you want to upgrade the MOBO/CPU/RAM

that way you've not wasted any money.

i personally had a 3770 system that i replaced in Feb to an 8700k/1080ti. My son is now using my old 3770 w/ 1050ti and its perfect for him playing fortnite @ 1080p 60hz

  • 3 weeks later...

At present my motherboard is not PCI e3 and I wont get the most out of a new graphics card. Finding a bourd for my existing processor has been very difficult and nearly impossible. And it appears my Ram on my old PC is not right as ifs not running to 1866mhz .....

So I am going to treat myself instead and use my old machine for a home server.

Thanks for all your help and answers guys.

GPU is your biggest detriment right now. CPU and RAM are good. GTX 1070 and SSD would help most.
