Stampf reacted to TheGlenlivet in which one?
Whichever one is cheaper, or that you like the design of more.  All 1080s are withing a few FPS of each other.  There isn't a huge difference in performance unless you are going to a record OC or alternative cooling.

As long as it is DDR4 yes.  2 sticks of 4GB would be better with dual channel though.
It will be better than an R7240.

How come? I always thought the G4560 is a better fit and for a $50 difference without mining price inflation is 30 frames better in NFS Payback.

Stampf reacted to Jurrunio in Am I better off overclocking a 8600K to its full potential or just buying an 8700? (Gaming)
8600k is better. Hyperthreading is particularly useful on workstation uses like video editing (to a point where my 2600k can go head-on against a 7600k in that regard). In games, hyperthreading rarely helps. Single core performance is still the major factor.

Stampf reacted to SpaceGhostC2C in AMD suggests profitable mining on Threadripper CPU
The South African guy doing replies to Linus' mining videos made one about mining on Threadripper. The possibility of good returns was there, but investing in a whole TR rig just for it is very different to adding a bunch of GPUs to a random computer...

you can go up to RX 580 / GTX 1060 6gb with this CPU and remain balanced, major issue is finding the cards at acceptable pricing right now.

What ever is cheaper in your region, the mid to high sata SSDs perform very similar in a way that you most likely won't notice a difference.
pick the best GB/$ ssd that fits your needs.

Stampf reacted to 19_blackie_73 in Corsair fans extremely loud?
if you want really really really quiet fans, get silent wings 3.
I have heard that the corsair fans are not the quietest on the market on full blast, but if you run them at 500-600RPM, you can't hear them. Question is why would you need 6 fans for that config, 3 is more than enough.

How did you connect the fans? via the motherboard? then try tinkering with software or bios control? If they are straight on the psu, get voltage regulators or a hub.
What RPMs are they running at? You can see that in HWinfo probably if they are connected to the motherboard or in speedfan. If they run full blast, start trying to get them lower -> first step look into the bios

Wait for iGPU Ryzen 3, already annouced, will save power and if you ever want to render it will do better, and it would probably be cheaper than than the combo.

Hey Linus! I got a very interesting Korean brand that I want you to look at!

    http://www.abko.co.kr/shop/product_item.php?ItId=2586311840

It's a South Korean brand called ABKO and this is their latest mid-tower flag ship case called ''605G Hubble''. Apparently AKBO is S.Korea's most popular PC peripheral brand right now.

They also have a whole bunch of keyboards with interchangeable key switches and whatnot and also mouses/headphones.

Could you guys check them out? I heard that ABKO was at Computex last year (which was also their first time attending), but no one seemed to have paid any attention to them.

But they seem to have a lot of decent stuff!

    IOMMU compatibility (GPU passthrough)?
    Virtualization performance?
