    Quest 3 has noticeably clearer optics than the 2 thanks to the higher resolution panels and better lenses. This is very useful in flight sims where you need to read small instruments but might not be as important in other types of games.
     
    Quest 3 has a proper IPD adjustment if you don't fit the pre defined IPDs of the Quest 2.
     
    My biggest gripe with the 3 is the power delivery.
    Battery life Its much shorter than I'd like even when turning the headset from 120hz to 90hz and turning down the display brightness.
    I even picked up a link cable with additional power injection and its still not enough to keep the headset from discharging while playing tethered to the PC.

    I've been able to resolve my driver timeout issues with my 7900XTX.
    After digging deeper into event viewer, I found my WMR VR environment was crashing (DHolographicDisplay.dll taking down dwm.exe) which was crashing the games and resulting in the driver timeout message.
     
    The issue turned out to be an incompatibility with an older version of a program called OpenKneeboard and the WMR OpenXR implementation which would cause the crash no matter if OpenKneeboard was running or not.
     
    I found if I switched to Steam's implementation of OpenXR runtime
    or
    Removed the OpenKneebaord registry entry in Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Khronos\OpenXR\1\ApiLayers\Implicit
    (installing latest build of OpenKneebaord seems to work fine)
    I no longer get the driver timeouts.
     
    This is probably a pretty niche situation in my case but after these fixes I can run CPU + GPU O.C plus Ram EXPO and system no longer crashes.
     
    Update: WMR was not the problem after all as I was still getting crashes, although less frequent with SteamVR OpenXR and Oculus OpenXR.
    I finally bit the bullet and did a clean install of Windows 10 ( I suspect the issue is between Win 11 and AMD 7000 series drivers) and even with all Ram Expo and CPU GPU O.C in place it's been stable for 12 hours of flights which never happened on Win 11 as the longest i could make it was about 1.5 hours with  the lowest being under 5 mins.
    My cousin built the exact same pc as me and is still on Win 11 and getting regular timeouts in DCS and ARK which means its not just a VR issue either. He'll be doing a clean install of Win 10 too until Windows/AMD can sort out Win 11 and AMD 7000 series drivers.
     
    Not the solution I was hoping for but if you're having GPU driver timeouts with 7000 series AMD cards and are on Windows 11, Try going back to Windows 10.

    Warhammer: Vermintide 2 is pretty close to the L4D2 formula of 4 player coop against waves of enemies with specials harder enemies thrown in.
    Deep Rock Galactic might also fit the bill for class based coop wave shooter with various mission objectives.
     
    For slower and more tactical coop, Ready or Not and Ground Branch are good  but as @TylerD321 said, they are a lot more difficult as you are dead in 1-2 bullets usually and no re-spawn until the next mission starts so communication and teamwork are key.

    Usually this is done in game by tuning the curves on the controller axis. if the game doesn't give you the option to tune the axis you can do it with 3rd party apps like DS4Windows for PS4/5 controllers assuming the games anti-cheat doesn't flag that.

    If you have a friend with a decent interent connection( 1 GB fiber), have them download the games onto their PC and then do a backup in steam and put that backup file on an ftp server. Download the backup from the ftp to your phone and transfer the file to the tablet, then do a restore in steam and it will install the game.  Its a round about way of doing things but it works.

    If you're willing to accept facebook/meta then the quest 2 is your best bet right now.
     
    Motion sickness is going to be a person to person issue based on your eyes not agreeing with your inner ear about the motion they perceive. This can be made much worse by a weak PC causing stuttering/low FPS of the headset's image but even a headset running at it's max refresh rate will cause motion sickness if you are susceptible to it.  The only way to deal with that is to slowly build a tolerance by playing until you begin to feel weird and stopping until your 100% again. it may take a few weeks/months of starting at 5-15 mins and slowly building up VR time until you can play for hours.
    Beatsaber may not give you motion sickness at all as your eyes don't see you as moving but DCS likely will as your eyes tell you you're in a fighterjet doing loops at mach 1 and your ear says you're sitting still.
     
    That brings us to DCS.
    For DCS, a Reverb G2 would give much better clarity to read the instruments but you're going to need a pretty high end PC for that. For example, to get a stable 90 FPS on a reverb G2 you'd need something like an RTX4090 and 5800X3d/13700K or better with at least 32GB of ram.
    I'm running a 5900x and 6800XT with 64GB Ram on a Reverb G2 with openXR and am getting 40-70 fps based on map, MP/SP and how many players/AI there are and that is using some FSR up-scaling via openXR toolkit.
    A quest 2 would be a little less resource intensive since it's lower resolution but you'd still want something like a 3060TI/3070 minimum to have a decent experience and you will be turning graphics way down.
    The new DCS multi-threading beta helps a bit but it's just decoupling the game logic from the image render but there are still issues with the DCS code especially in multiplayer that will hammer your FPS.

    Agreed. First gen vive should be cheap and give you an upgrade path as the controllers and lighthouses should work with newer vive headsets as well as Index and Pimax/other Lighthouse based headsets.

    For the most "IN YOUR FACE"  effect nothing still beats Cyberpunk 2077 at 4k with HDR and Ray Tracing Psycho... if you can run it. Especially when night time arrives and it starts to rain and you are in a part of the city where there is a lot of colorful illumination. The way the raindrops get illuminated around you... no video serves justice to how good this looks live on a good OLED. Another one which basically redefines reality is Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020, BUT the condition is you need the right mods and those are expensive. But it's the first game where cutscenes aside, everything else looks photorealistic THE WHOLE TIME. Usually a game or a mode looks really good for 1-22 minutes till you get used to it, but this thing stays that way the entire time. A lil sneek'n'peek:
    Alos, almost forgot - Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition is another one that looks sinfully good at max settings.

    Street fighter 2 for SNES was $70-80 USD in 1992 but a huge chunk of the price of games back then was the cost to manufacture the cartridges. The Rom chips and custom chips (if any) plus shipping would easily be half the retail cost of the games.
    Going to optical disks with the Saturn/PS1 etc.. shaved a huge % of the manufacture costs and going to fully digital distribution removed manufacture and shipping almost entirely.  Now game companies still pay Steam etc... 30% or less to sell in their stores like they did for brick and mortar shops back in the day. All the inflation and extra development costs have been offset by massive savings in manufacture and distribution along with a massive growth in the number of units that can be sold now keeping the per unit price about the same.

    Pre-builts themselves aren't really a bad thing. Some people don't want to build their own PC just like some people don't want to work on their own car.
    The big problem with buying pre-builts when you haven't built your own PC before is you don't always know what to look for when the company screws you over either by using proprietary parts like Dell likes to do with Motherboards, PSUs, and cases for their tower machines making them almost impossible to upgrade later without replacing the whole unit.
    or only giving you 1 stick of ram so you can't run dual channel or don't enable XMP in the BIOS
    or they give you the cheapest motherboard and PSUs possible so you're missing features or have limited upgrade paths without spending hundreds extra to replace the cheap parts.
     
    There are plenty of good system builders out there but they tend to charge a bit more and people go with the lowest original price thinking they are getting a deal not realizing it's going to cost them more down the line.

    Issues with the Quest 2?  Besides the official deluxe head strap's plastic cracking and breaking, the biggest issue I've heard of is with melted charging ports.  It seems to be related to using cheap or damaged cables when charging/tethered to pc. It seems to be rare given the number sold but not having a warranty would be a bit concerning.

    What kind of VR games are you looking to play?
    Racing/Flight/Space sims are going to require a decent PC. there is nothing standalone that really touches them.
     
    PSVR 2 Might be a good all around option when it comes out but it's unlikely to work on a PC any time soon if at all so you could only use it for PS5 VR games.
     
    Quest 2's standalone games can be good for what they are but aren't going to have the same potential as PSVR2/PS5 games but you do have the option to connect to a PC in the future for more demanding games.
     
    If you want the best tracking accuracy you're looking at a Valve Index or Vive Pro 2 but those are quite a bit out of your price range and are PC only.

    Quest 2 is pretty much the best bang for the buck if you don't mind the whole facebook thing.
    Don't get the official deluxe head strap as they will break eventually and Nvidia cards seems to be better for streaming to the headset.
     
    You can get much better visuals and tracking out of something like the vive pro 2 or index but they are much more expensive and require more setup.
    There are some other options if you only want to do cockpit VR like flying/racing but they have drawbacks in other areas.

    Im going to be honest with you, Going into 4k Gaming is one of the more expensive and dumb things you can do. Keep it at 1440p and under, otherwise you are going to have to spend a LOT more money. A great quality 1440p Monitor will do you much better then 4k, since youd have to get a fairly expensive GPU and monitor. 
     
    Other then that as long as you upgrade the monitor to something good youll be fine. Drop in upgrade to a 5800x3D and a better GPU and you will be set for the next 3-5 years.

    If you like flying planes and blowing stuff up I'd suggest DCS World
    Base game is free and includes a combat capable SU-25T ground attack jet ( Russian A-10 ) with simplified cockpit interaction (all keybinds/no clickable cockpit)
    and
    A TF-51 fully clickable cockpit but un-armed trainer version of the WW2 P-51.
    As well, you can try any of the paid modules for a 2 week trial that resets every 6 months.
    There is a learning curve as it's a simulator so you'll want to watch some youtube tutorials or read some guides/manuals so you understand whats going on but you can host your own server or join multiplayer servers with the free planes if the server allows it.
    There is also a built in mission editor and tons of free missions and mods so tons of content available.
     
    While the game is free I'd suggest a controller or preferably Logitech Extreme 3d joystick ($35 new or cheaper used) and a $13 phone app called Smooth track for head tracking in game as it makes a world of difference.
     
    You didn't post your specs so I'd suggest downloading it and seeing how well it runs for you before going any further if it sounds interesting. Pick the open beta branch if you want public multiplayer as that's what all the server run.

    The wands have excellent tracking but the lack of thumbsticks, multiple face buttons, and better grip buttons make the wands kinda weird to use/rebind in games that expect that stuff.

    I'm currently using a Reverb G2 for DCS and for price to performance for for racing and flying, it's probably where you want to go.
    There is a caveat though, even with the extra cameras the tracking of the controllers isn't great. I found that out playing VTOLVR and lose throttle tracking regularly when looking up. If you're only playing with a HOTAS or Racing wheel in sims then it's not really an issue and you should be fine.
     
    If you plan to play any roomscale games with tracked controllers you may be better off with a lighthouse based system like a Valve Index although the screen isn't as clear or a Pimax although it's a more finicky setup with their Pitool. The HTC Vive 2 would give you a good combo of high screen resolution and good tracking although the price is pretty high and I'd still want the Valve controllers over the HTC wands
     
    I upgraded from a 3900X to a 5900X and noticed a decent frame rate improvement paired with a 6800XT although I'd think the 5800X3D with the extra cache would be a better bet right now than the extra cores. There is a slight GHZ drop from the 5900X though.
     
    VRPerfkit or the OpenXR toolkit (If you go Reverb G2) are also some options to up the FPS in VR by using AMD image up-scaling (No DLSS support in DCS yet) or cutting out the SteamVR layer respectively.

    Wow, ok that would be the problem I think. 77mm is way over what those WMR headsets were designed for by over a 1 full cm in this case. I'm 68 mm and that's about the max my Reverb G2 will support.
    It looks like the Vive Pro and Pro 2 will go to 72mm physically and the pimax headsets will go to 70mm physically and up to 75mm using additional Software offset.
     
    You can take a look at the pimax headsets as they will get you the closest to your measured IPD but will still be a couple mm off even at max software offset. I have a Pimax 5K+ from the kickstarter and it was a decent headset but I wanted better clarity for flight sim cockpits so switched to the Reverb.
     
    The Pimax headsets do have the advantage of the super wide FOV compared to anything else out there but they are expensive, they are a niche company out of China, and you'll need the Valve/HTC lighthouses and controllers so you'll have to mount them to the walls or tripods in your play space instead of the camera on the headset tracking of the WMR headsets.
     
    Lighthouse tracking is much more accurate but more work to setup than the simple camera based tracking. If you do go that route, you might want to plug them into switchable power bars or network controlled outlets as last time I used mine, it wasn't able to put the lighthouses to sleep like the vive could so I had to keep manually unplugging them when I was done which can be a pain.
     
    Maybe we'll see some more options with all the new headsets being shown off this year

    First thing you're going to want to do is get an accurate measurement of your IPD from either an eye doctor or by other means such as those listed here.

    Once you know what your IPD is, you can look for a headset that can accommodate it. The cheap headsets usually have a fixed IPD that you can slight adjust in software but if your IPD is too far outside the fixed lens distance then no amount of software IPD correction is going to help.
     
    The more expensive headsets like the Index, Vive Pro 2, Pimax, Reverb G2, etc... have a physical IPD adjustment to allow precision adjustment so your eyes fit the lens sweet spot correctly.
     
    Look for a headset that supports your measured IPD and that should fix your eye strain issue.
    There are some new headsets due out in 2022 so hopefully there is an option that has good visual quality, tracking, controllers, and physical IPD adjustment as a reasonable price.

    An HTC Vive Pro 2 with wireless kit and Valve Index controllers would be the top of the line right now but that's going to cost you around $2000 USD plus tax and you better have a top end PC to run it.
    It's the most plug and play friendly option to give you 4k resolution wireless VR with good controllers.
    This would be a noticeable improvement over the Quest 2 in pretty much every category but the price to performance difference isn't worth it in my opinion.
     
    Unless you are playing flight/racing sims and really need that extra clear display, keep saving up and wait for the next gen of headsets to come out. Hopefully then you wont have to mix and match parts to get a no compromises upgrade of the quest 2.

    Not exactly emulation but DevilutionX from the Play Store allows you to play Diablo 1 on android devices.  You need the DIABDAT.MPQ file from the original CD or GOG version on your device for it to work.  The default controls use an on screen d-pad and buttons for attack and spell casting. You just touch the screen for the rest. It might be possible to use a mouse connected to the android device but I've not tested that.  There doesn't seem to be any multiplayer currently due to lack of networking support but the project is open source so its possible they might be able to get tcp/ip MP working in the future.

    The first thing you should probably understand is that Arma is more of a sandbox you can build games in than a game in it's self.
    It has a very powerful editor that allows you to place units, vehicles, objects etc.. combined with a robust scripting and trigger system which means mission makers can make it do almost anything they can thing of. 
    The servers online are almost all running missions created by the community and there is a huge emphasis on mods.
    While they have pretty good integration with the steam workshop to make loading the mods a server is running pretty easy compared to how it used to be in OFP/Arma1/Arma2, it's still not quite jump in and play.
    Since the missions and mods are pretty much all community made, there isn't a ton of standardization on how things are done. e.g. if you want to rearm a vehicle, maybe you just park an ammo truck next to it, or maybe you have to park it on as specific spot at your base, or maybe there is a custom UI panel you need to access. It all depends on what the person who made the mission decided to do.  This can be a turnoff to new players as you have to figure out how to play each mission before you can actually play it.
    If you are mostly interested in a realistic competitive PVP game then Squad is much more what your looking for and you can always wait for a sale to pick it up cheaper.
     
    While you can build a large competitive PVP missions in Arma, and people have, it's more of a role playing game in the broader sense and does skew more towards Coop/PvE with groups.
    I would not say Arma is boring if you're a single player as I've spent too many hours to count just messing around in the editor with different mods and making my own missions or jumping into a coop server.
     
    I think the best way to describe it is Squad is a sport with defined rules and objectives in a military wrapper.
    Arma is more like Legos in a military wrapper.
    Only you know which you would rather play with.
