So you may heard of YouTube want to make a subscription so people can pay to get rid of Ads "not using adblock"
 
You may need to consider this, YOU Content Creators!!

For years, YouTube’s fans have been telling us they want more — more choice when watching their favorite content, more ways to support their favorite creators and, above all, the option to watch their favorite videos uninterrupted.

To give fans more choice we will be launching a new ads-free version of YouTube, available to fans for a monthly fee. This service will create a new source of revenue over time that supplements your advertising revenue. That’s why an overwhelming majority of our partners — representing over 95% of YouTube watchtime — have asked for and signed up for this service.

As you heard in our previous emails, we want to ensure that fans who choose to pay for an ads-free experience can watch all the same videos that are available on the ads-supported experience. That’s why we’re asking you to update your agreement to reflect the updated terms for the ads-free service.
To accept, simply log into YouTube.com as “pakafka” from a desktop or laptop and follow the prompts by October 22nd.
If you haven’t signed by that date, your videos will no longer be available for public display or monetization in the United States. That outcome would be a loss for YouTube, a loss for the thriving presence you’ve built on the platform, and above all, a loss for your fans. We remain committed to working with you, as we always have. And of course, at any time, you can accept the updated terms which will make your videos public and monetizable again. We believe these new terms will greatly strengthen our partnership for the future. We went through a similar process three years ago when we began distributing and monetizing your content on mobile devices. Today, mobile represents over half of all watchtime and mobile revenue is up 2x in just the last year. Just as with mobile, we’re confident this latest update will excite your fans and generate a previously untapped, additional source of revenue for you.

Video industry sources say Google has told them it intends to charge $10 a month for the combined offering. It’s hard to imagine how YouTube will make money at that pricing, since its music service was supposed to cost $10 on its own, with the music labels and other copyright owners pocketing the majority of that.

Why does it matter, as long as there's still the option for free, ad-supported viewing of all content? Doesn't sound so bad to me.

 

Whether or not it's good for content creators is going to depend on the details that we aren't privy to. If enough revenue is being shared with the content creator to cover what the ads would've brought in, then it's at least a net loss of zero.

a few ads won't kill you

 

This is not even close to as bad as the "subscribe to be able to watch the videos" thing they tried a few years ago

I'm paying for a youtube subscription.

 

I used to be fine with ads.. Until the swedish ads i got started to get really fucking wierd

I'm totally fine with paying a bit to both avoid ads and support my favorite youtubers at the same time instead of just whitelisting YouTube on my Adblock

YouTube ads are so obnoxiously implemented. I would much rather pay a subscription to get rid of them and support content creators, rather than just blocking them all as I am doing currently. I hope this will be supported across devices too so I don't get ads on mobile.

This is disturbing to me.

 

Today, it's "pay to get rid of the ads!" but how soon until it's "pay to watch, oh and here's some ads!", the exact same thing that happened to Cable and Satellite TV once upon a time.

Ketchup is better than mustard.

GUI is better than Command Line Interface.

Dubs are better than subs

I would pay, but nowhere near $10 a month. Cut that to $5 and I'll consider.

It will going to be the usual 40/60 google/video amkers I assume, but I would like see a system where $4 goes to google, $5 goes to channels based on view time and I can decide where the remaining $1 goes, like channels I like but doesn't produce as lengthy or frequent content to make much money or even charity like red cross or some stuff like that.

and at content ID match only the matched video time gets to the content id owner and not the earning of the whole video, so a 6 sec audio match doesn't mean that the 2 hours video earning goes to a music label, only 6 sec worth of it

 

 

just edition another though: this might hurt people with a younger audience, since marketers are want to market to people with disposable income, and if the service is successful then a large portion of that demographic might go to the paid subscription option further lowering the already dreadful CPMs

Yotube's way of saying we keep losing money and we need a way to get more. MAYBE DON'T PAY PEWDIEPIE 4 MILLION DOLLARS A YEAR! They should have a max payout for the types/number of people per Youtube channel. If it is one guy playing video games max it to like a million a year and for LTT since it is an actual business and has multiple people max it at like 10 million.

the sub service, especially for a venue like YT is utter dumb shit!

 

people don't follow a single channel - so, to think they'll want uninterrupted videos from all the sources it would mean hundreds of dollars per month from the subscriber - google doesn't understand one simple fact: they're not Netflix / Amazon

Well, that's a slippery slope argument. It comes down to what you personally choose to believe will happen in the future.

Youtube gets it's relevance from the size of it's audience. If a similar, optional pay-to-avoid-ads service like Spotify is anything to go by, Youtube could be amputating up to three-quarters of their audience by going paywall-only. Maybe more, since this optional payment model is new and adoption rates will probably be slow since it's traditionally been free only.

 

Further, have you heard that Twitch is going to start allowing uploaded video-on-demand services next year (http://www.techspot.com/news/62242-twitch-add-video-uploads-compete-directly-youtube.html)? That could be stiff competition, and if Youtube adopted a paywall-only model, it would basically be handing the market over to Twitch unless they did the same.

I realize that it's a "slippery slope" fallacy, although I would argue that historical precedent make it not a fallacy (or less of one, I don't see how "slippery slope" is a fallacy in the first place, more of a hypothesis or theory at worst, both of which can be proven wrong).. If there is one aspect of humanity that can be regularly predicted and depended upon, it's greed.

 

I don't believe "slippery slope" to be an unsound argument, it is merely a prediction, which can turn out to be true, untrue, or close. If you take the consideration that it has happened in the past into account, then it isn't entirely unreasonable to predict or "assume" that it will happen again.

Yotube's way of saying we keep losing money and we need a way to get more. MAYBE DON'T PAY PEWDIEPIE 4 MILLION DOLLARS A YEAR! They should have a max payout for the types/number of people per Youtube channel. If it is one guy playing video games max it to like a million a year and for LTT since it is an actual business and has multiple people max it at like 10 million. 

The issue is not with the pay out, it is usually not alot. it is that youtube the service cost so much to run and only be ad supported. youtube gets more traffic then payed services like netflix BUT gets less money per viewer then those other services.

This is disturbing to me.

 

Today, it's "pay to get rid of the ads!" but how soon until it's "pay to watch, oh and here's some ads!", the exact same thing that happened to Cable and Satellite TV once upon a time.

Vessel does this. 3 second ads that barely have time to say the name of a company/brand/product are still ads.
