R9 390X Fiji XT - Extreme Memory Bandwidth & SPs

Paragon_X

According to Kitguru the R9 390X might feature 4096 SPs and 4096 bit memory bus to support the 3D memory architecture which might reach up to 640 Gb/s

"If the listing in Sandra’s database is correct and really describes a prototype of the Radeon R9 390X “Fiji XT” graphics card, the next-generation offering from AMD will feature 4096 stream processors (SPs) (which, in case of the GCN 1.2 architecture, means 64 compute units and 256 texture units) and 4096-bit memory bus. The memory sub-system will rely on SK Hynix’s stacked high bandwidth memory (HBM) chips with 1024-bit input/output interface (compliant with the Wide IO standard)."

On paper the R9 390X seems like it will destroy all competition, what is critical though is that it uses a new memory type which will probably mean an elevated price.

As a side note it will also be interesting to see how AMD will utilize their coop with SK Hynix to adapt these technologies to their other Product lines.

I don't think it'll have a 4096 bit memory bus. That must be a typo. ;)

well...that's kinda obvious isn't it? I mean, we're comparing the highest end amd card to the second highest nvidia card

So? I just pointed out the ridiculousness of his post.

It is like saying "well, good thing I didn't buy the new Mercedes E-class, with the new BMW 7-series on it's way"

a R9 390x will most likely be in the 500-600€ ballpark (when it gets released), while a GTX 970 plays in the 300€ league ...

We're not dealing with GDDR5 anymore, HBM has a 1024-bit interface for each stack. 4 GB means 4 stacks @ 1024-bit each resulting in a 4096-bit interface.

wow

not particularly cause more than just 390x is gonna have HBM -.- and previous rumors/speculation have stated 390x to be aimed at GM200 (aka 1080/Titan2 to be) with the 380/380x being more aimed at 970/980 xD at probably a similar cost

not

640 Gb/s?

but 640GB/s, there is 8x difference

Computer users fall into two groups:
those that do backups
those that have never had a hard drive fail.

Very excited! If they can price it right and actually have 3rd party coolers out for it the same day it releases then I'll be a very happy camper.

Even if you don't wish to consider it a repost, this isn't the original source either. KitGuru are re-writing WCCFTech's article which they did link to to their credit.
