Techquickie idea- why linus wears sandals with socks.

Syntaxvgm

I want a solid 5 minutes explaining why this is the superior footwear choice. As someone who wears socks and sandals (the slip on kind) I need a good video to link to people.

Image result for socks and sandals

muh specs

Gaming and HTPC (reparations)- ASUS 1080, MSI X99A SLI Plus, 5820k- 4.5GHz @ 1.25v, asetek based 360mm AIO, RM 1000x, 16GB memory, 750D with front USB 2.0 replaced with 3.0  ports, 2 250GB 850 EVOs in Raid 0 (why not, only has games on it), some hard drives

Screens- Acer preditor XB241H (1080p, 144Hz Gsync), LG 1080p ultrawide, (all mounted) directly wired to TV in other room

Stuff- k70 with reds, steel series rival, g13, full desk covering mouse mat

All parts black

Workstation(desk)- 3770k, 970 reference, 16GB of some crucial memory, a motherboard of some kind I don't remember, Micomsoft SC-512N1-L/DVI, CM Storm Trooper (It's got a handle, can you handle that?), 240mm Asetek based AIO, Crucial M550 256GB (upgrade soon), some hard drives, disc drives, and hot swap bays

Screens- 3  ASUS VN248H-P IPS 1080p screens mounted on a stand, some old tv on the wall above it.

Stuff- Epicgear defiant (solderless swappable switches), g600, moutned mic and other stuff.

Laptop docking area- 2 1440p korean monitors mounted, one AHVA matte, one samsung PLS gloss (very annoying, yes). Trashy Razer blackwidow chroma...I mean like the J key doesn't click anymore. I got a model M i use on it to, but its time for a new keyboard. Some edgy Utechsmart mouse similar to g600. Hooked to laptop dock for both of my dell precision laptops. (not only docking area)

Shelf- i7-2600 non-k (has vt-d), 380t, some ASUS sandy itx board, intel quad nic. Currently hosts shared files, setting up as pfsense box in VM. Also acts as spare gaming PC with a 580 or whatever someone brings. Hooked into laptop dock area via usb switch

Sandals are hard on your feet as they don't grip it properly making you have to walk awkwardly in them hurting you in the process.

Flip flops are sandals. Not all sandals are flip flops though.

But they're all garbage footwear.

And look what I've found in the dirt.

Pretty sure it’s an ongoing joke. No one actually wears socks and sandals seriously.

yah Linus's sandals are somewhat closer to actual footwear, the ones in the pic are like what I wear. I used to work 12 hour shifts on my feet with no problems even with cheap boots, and tbh I can't even stand an hour in sandals like that without pain. If I plan to walk I wear shoes/boots. But I work a desk job. Maximum comfort.  Slip them right on and off.
I'm...not sure what the point of ones like linus wears are. Still have to secure them, might as well wear shoes.

Sandals and Crocs can get pretty uncomfortable because of the straps rubbing onto the skin. It can cause blisters. Socks provide a comfortable buffer between the grippy straps and the skin.

What do you mean not good enough? Comfort and convenience alone would be justification enough when having to be on your feet much of the day. Allow the feet to "breathe" can be huge under certain conditions. Besides just being more comfortable, some people can actually damage their feet if they are damp too long. I have a diabetic friend that has to change socks during the day to avoid getting painful, slow healing sores if his feet get damp for too long. Another friend almost lost a foot and is no longer able to walk on it due to an infection from sweaty feet (and wasn't bright enough to see a doctor before it was too late; his doctors want to amputate it but he refuses to allow it).

Personally, crocs gross me out so much. Sweaty feet mixed with rubber? It’s gross and I can’t help but imagine how horrible every croc wearers feet smell.

Plus they have holes everywhere, so the feet get dirty faster too.

Sandals + socks (like the style Linus wears) are a different story. Comfort,

cleanliness, and convenience all rolled into one.

Based on Linus' response, I think that you're wrong.

It's actually pretty common in the Pacific North West.  I wear socks and sandals exclusively outside of work (these are great: https://www.shoes.com/keen-newport/256105).  If you have hot feet, normal shoes are simply uncomfortable compared to sandals.  Between sweat and the North West weather it's good to wear socks.

So, socks and sandals give an excellent balance of breath-ability and comfort.
