So i am going to buy used pc soon and this guy told me that the only thing he needs to sell the pc is win 10 (not original one). He told me that he is going to ask his friends bout that. Its been 2 weeks, and I told him that I can buy it now, and I can buy the win 10 myself. He told me that he can sell that pc right away, but now I started thinking that are those unoriginal win 10 legit? I was watching video and one guy said "unoriginal ones might be unsafe". So how can I make sure that they are safe?

Windows 10 is being cracked in a different way and it's very unsafe, because it's basically a malware that keeps running in the background to keep your windows activated, it does work but i really don't like the idea of it.

 

but when talking about Windows 7 and earlier cracks, then yeah they're safe :) (they're called loaders)

unoriginal like the computer came with an older version and was updated to 10 or it's a pirated version (which is POINTLESS) since Microsoft doesn't even require Windows 10 to be activated?

If Windows is pirated or cracked, no one on this forum can guaranty the OS proper operation or safeness (embedded key loggers, embedded virus/malware can be undetectable by anti-virus and other security software).

 

If Windows is using a tool used on a legit version of Windows, then while we can say that the Windows is safe, the tool to hack the activation service to make Windows activate, is unknown. Anti-virus will mark it as a virus/malware and want to remove it. And so you'll need to add it as exception, and you (nor we) have any idea what it does as "extra" on the back (spying, key logger, etc.)

 

If you mean that a genuine version of Windows 10 was installed using a gray market (ebay and such) purchased key, then, as it is a genuine version of Windows, acquired from Microsoft (or legit disk purchased in store), than it is safe. However, the license might get blocked at any time by Microsoft Activation servers, and you'll need to purchase a new license key to enter.

There are cheap windows 10 keys out there, and its 100% original. It is very cheap, why bother with cracking / pirate windows. You can use windows 10 for free if you don't have a problem with the activation warning.

 

And to answer your question whether is safe, how safe do you want your computer to be?

Do you mind somebody extracting important infos like credit cards number, your email password and so on?

If you don't mind or there's nothing important in the computer, then you got nothing to worry about.

It will operate as good as the "real" windows.

This again. Windows 10 can de downloaded and used FOREVER without activation and without any problems. Just download the oficial iso from microsoft, install it and be happy. There will be a water mark there, so if you want to make it go away just buy a license.

If your talking cracked then NO, you dont want that, thats illegal. 

 

If your talking grey market keys then thats a little more a grey area (No pun intended) of the law. Because those Keys are 100% legit, BUT selling them on Kinguin or G2A could violate MS TOS because they are to be sold in certain regions or were sold with certain conditions attached. In this case you can buy for cheap, but you need to have an understanding that your copy of Windows could be deactived at any time.

 

The best way to go is buy an OEM key or a full retail key. Those will cost more money but offer little to no risk.

About "unoriginal" Windows - it's not the same as pirated. Pirated Windows is still Windows created by Microsoft, but with some methods to security/activation bypass. If you found something like "John Windows" instead of "Microsoft Windows" - then it will be "unoriginal" Windows. :)

They are still grey market keys. You can't be 100% sure that the one who is selling them has right to do so. For example volume and enterprise keys are not for resales. Full prices for retail and OEM are 10-100x the eBay price.

They are still grey market keys. You can't be 100% sure that the one who is selling them has right to do so. For example volume and enterprise keys are not for resales. Full prices for retail and OEM are 10-100x the eBay price.

So it's still a legit key. He isn't going to be getting viruses from entering a key is he now? Better than full on going on a torrent site and downloading pre activated virus crap. If the key somehow stops working at least he only spent A FEW BUCKS rather than A HUNDRED BUCKS.

You can't say for 100% if key is legit or not. Ofc entering key doesn't give access to outsider or make Windows download and install bad things. But is it really better than doing other bad things? Actually its worse as you are paying for someone because they have got it for free from somewhere.

Not really that bad because even though the person who you bought the key from may not have paid for the key, you did. Therefore you did the right thing and paid for the key rather than trying to crack. I feel like you're one of those that thinks if you buy from anywhere else than the software's creator then it's bad and shouldn't be allowed because you didn't buy from the software's creator. Originally 512mb DDR2, Pentium M 740 @ 1.73GHzm 60GB IDE laptop HDD and single boot XP Pro. The Craptop (dead), 2gb DDR3, Celeron n2840 @ 2.1GHz, 50GB eMMC chip, Windows 10 Pro. Nightrider (dead and cannibalized for Dominator II): Ryzen 3 1200, Gigabyte A320M HD2, 8GB DDR4, XFX Ghost Core Radeon HD 7770, 1TB Samsung Spinpoint F3 (2010), 3TB Seagate Barracuda, Corsair CX750M Green, Deepcool SMARTER, Windows 10 Home.

LOL. Really? You actually believe that crap? Yes, you are paying. But to whom? Maybe 1/3rd of the payment goes to someone it should be going. Microsoft, the company who makes the OS, isn't one of them. You can have whatever opinion about Microsoft, that isn't point here. But you are justifying paying just to someone who is essentially criminal. So rewarding someone for being sneaky bastard. You aren't punishing Microsoft as you continue to use their product.

So? The key was paid for by somebody else who's reselling it. But I respect your views and that you can't accept that buying keys from a 3rd party is still legit. You keep enjoying paying hundreds of bucks for a license while everyone else here pays a few bucks.
