Friend's PC is haunted?

YellowJersey

A mate of mine has a peculiar problem with his custom built PC. It randomly turns itself on. Anyone ever experienced this? It's creepy. Just sitting there, watching tv, when it just randomly boots up. Poor guy has to turn it off at the back whenever he leaves the house.

Not looking for solutions. Just sharing for a laugh. Hence why I didn't post this in troubleshooting.

System Specs: Second-class potato, slightly mouldy

Definitely a banshee hiding in there somewhere.  He doesn't have a sick family member does he?

Grammar and spelling is not indicative of intelligence/knowledge.  Not having the same opinion does not always mean lack of understanding.

Oddly enough I had the same problem with the Z97-X Killer from ASRock..

Would turn itself on in the middle of the night and stay at the Windows lock screen .. obviously

Never found a solution besides plugging out the ethernet cable, fun fact WOL (Wake On Lan) & PXE where both disabled.

Now that I use a new motherboard it doesn't happen, still same cables/switches/router tho ..

Haunted : No, such magic doesn't exist.

Bugged : Yes, fix is unknown afaik.

When the PC is acting up haunted,

who ya gonna call?
"Monotone voice" : A local computer store.

*Terrible joke I know*

Go to BIOS and check something like "Wake on"  events

Something like Ethernet or USB Device might be turned on

PS: I had the same issue, mine was the Ethernet

There is also a setting in windows. If you find the mouse in device manager and go to it's properties then the power settings tab there's a box "allow this device to wake the computer", uncheck that.

Waking up in the middle of the night is annoying, and it’s a problem that doesn’t just affect humans. Computers can have restless nights, too, tossing and turning as they turn on for no apparent reason, then go back to sleep after a set period of time. :-P

Sounds like a case for Buzzfeed Unexplained Supernatural edition.

Id carefully remove the motherboard and reseat all plugs and components once.  Take a bottle of water to a church and get it blessed before doing so

Mine does that and its H97 Pro4M by ASRock. I think this is a fairly common issue on ASRock boards, someone on Tom's posted about this too.
