Intel i7 8700k or Ryzen 2700x

Did not buy the cpu yet so not sure which to get 8700k or 2700x

Wasn't able to buy it but was about to but than the cpu ran out of stock. I mainly play mmorpg with a bit of hearth stone. I do run a lot of tabs like 20 tabs which is essentially a process by itself on chrome.

What are your current PC specs? RAM, Storage, GPU? Also what monitor and refresh rate are you using

8700k then if your just gaming etc. Ryzen is better at streaming and gaming, and if you want to do other stuff with it.

Each CPU has it's own set of ups and downs, it depends on what you want to do with it. Like for instance the 8700k has faster cores meanwhile the 2700x has more of them, therefore if you want to game with the PC as it's primary use grab the 8700k, if you are going to be live streaming or compiling videos, grab the 2700x.

I'd get the ryzen any day.

Because you have the choice right now. And more cores will be advantageous in the long run.

 

So go for that and not for Intel.

Intel does that too, AFAIR.

Reason is that in the olden days many used their ancient Coolers they had lying around from other processors - wich destroyed the new Athlon Socket A Processors...

And it took some time until some decent Heatsinks were available...

 

So with a good quality Heatsink you should be fine.

Why do you even care? Both Intel and AMD has it and AMD already said they will be stepping away from this... It's not like they enforced it anyway and there is no way to prove it anyway.

Which games? If it’s something like World of Warcraft or Guild Wars 2, you’re going to get significantly better framerates on an 8700K. Both rely heavily on single-thread performance.

 

On my R5-1600X I overclocked to 4.0 GHz, I could dip to around 30-40 FPS in a 25 man raid in WoW, but on the 8700K I hover around 100 in raids and over 200 or so in most of the world.

 

Theres more than clock speed going on there. WoW just isn’t optimized well for Ryzen, unfortunately.

 

Guild Wars 2 ran about as well as it did on my i7-980X at 4.0 GHz as it did on the Ryzen 5, which is to say not that great. I would hit 20 FPS or so in world events.

 

Other games like Overwatch or Doom were totally fine because they’re well-optimized and love cores/threads, but if single-threaded games are your primary concern, like most MMO’s, you’ll get better performance for your $330 out of the 8700K.

 

Ryzen is better suited to working rather than gaming.

That's not really true and intel has the same "warranty". Overclocking also voids the warranty but I have yet to hear a company say they won't honor it because you OCed it 200mhz. Unless you physically modified the card they cannot tell

8 cores is more fun than 6 cores, and the soldered IHS is nice
