SSDs are a godsend for older PCs if you don't care about missing out on the sweet vibes provided by spinning rust. I threw a 120GB 840 EVO in my old Vaio system (nothing special, a Pentium D, 4GB? of RAM, and an HD6670) and man did it get even snappier than before, which is impressive considering the fact that it was already really responsive running off the 500GB Barracuda 7200.12.

I feel a sudden urge to be a smartass and try to run Fortnite on either the 6670, my GTX 480 ES, or the A8 3850 I have.

It sucks though when you have to do it via an adapter. Only SATAI HDD or SSD function with my KT6V's onboard controller. So I can't use my early 128GB SATAII SSD (though it can be booted over USB 2.0) without an IDE adapter or bootable controller card.

That being said I do have (both 160GB 5400RPM) a 2008 Hitachi and 2009 WD SATAI 2.5" HDD which work fine - and they crush any period correct 7200RPM HDD in all metrics.

So 2 of the HDD are going out a free spare 250GB  860 Evo is coming in.

Though it will be bottleneck by the SATA II limitation but still faster than any HDD.

So I think now I have like 7 spare HDDs duno what to do with them...mostly SATA HDD.

Guys help.

After removing bootable HDD (which had some jumper removed) and replacing with SSD I can not pass this screen:

Keyboard does not work at all.

Can not access to BIOS.

Motherboard is Biostar NF520-A2TE.

Maybe SSD is not even supported.

This is the result of making a mistake as to what problem the rig was having. No OS would run reliably (Xubuntu 16.04 would have a kernel panic) until I swapped my lone 512MB stick for one from my 1GB kit. I've put my best (unused) 3.5" HDD in it. Also using the Radeon 9200 instead of the FX5700 now - it looks so much better.

I love the sound of Maxtor HDD (or their Quantum derived drives)

Two or one drive on that PATA cable? Does the adapter have jumpers for master/slave/cable select?

I removed working SATA HDD, just checked no jumpers on it.

I did removed PATA drive too but that one was not installed to MoBo.

So I just swapped the SATA HDD with SSD wanting to install new OS to my SSD but got above (pic).

Am I missing something?

Nope.Won't pass the startup screen.

Immediately when I returned HDD, no issues at all...

Am I missing something maybe in BIOS.

It just stucks at the screen with a SSD

Update:

Strange, it happened even with HDD.

Now I noticed it happens when the case is flipped horizontal.

I thought it's the sata cable, swapped the cabble, same issue.

It simply is stuck at the screen...but when I swap to HDD 99 % no issues.

I've been tinkering on a lot of stuff while I wait for my X58 Classy to show up (FRIDAY!).... First I took apart my Phantom build and installed a slick little 2.5" bay reservoir (They still make 'em... in China). I also switched from the XR7 to a Freezemod 360 I somehow got from Amazon through the warehouse deals (wasn't supposed to be that good a rad tbh) and redid all the tubing to get around the X58's massive heatsinks. I used my 790i as a mock up, the tubing has enough slack I can shift it around if need be.

I also tore down a couple GPU's for fresh paste and pads. I had forgotten just how many chips a 896Mb GTX 260 has on it. And the size of that core!

Also I managed to snag a brand new HX1200 as I believe I mentioned before. She's big, maybe a little overkill but I won't have to worry about power. It is now sitting pretty in the Phantom, read to rumble.

And last but not least, China wins again. I have been hunting for a water block that fits pre-AM2 S939 mounts and I lucked out finally with a $25 purchase on Amazon. Had to wait for it to come across the sea, but it was worth it.

Nah I was looking for something REALLY simple, like double click and go lol. That's too much time and effort for a work prank when I should be working.

How many sticks? FBDDR2 is quite interesting memory, as it has a memory buffer chip on the RAM stick.

I have 12 sticks of it, if I recall correctly it's DDR2 867MHz, I attached a picture of it below. I cannot confirm it's ECC however I'm pretty confident it ishttps://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/983859675223179275/1054142785437040720/IMG_20221218_160240.jpg

Oh man this looks so weird and cool, I can't find any pictures of what's inside of it and I'm not spending $50 to find out but boy that's a nice enclosure.

Being Core 2 Duo based...there are more appropriate industrial PC.

Nothing is as rugged as a 386 industrial PC.

My weekend is ruined. Classy board has been stuck at Customs for a week in Toronto with no movement.

I have a Sabertooth X58 combo (i7 960,12GB XMS3) coming from Vancouver now too. And my i7 975 EE showed up from China a month earlier than it was supposed to, so that's something at least.

But I still want that Classy.
