Seem to remember a simple jumper cut would cause the region lock-out to stop working on the old NES.

Was most likely referring to 110/230V.

Yeah i was asking what the Kiss nomenclature was for the 80D.  I'll go look it up don't worry

Yes it does.

I only ask as i have an interest in Canon SLRs.  I have a 100D that i'm rebuilding my collection around.  I used to have a 600D when my father and I used to frequent Brands Hatch regular to take pictures of the cars and bikes going round.  I had to sell mine and my dads gear to pay for his funeral when he died a few years back.  I got quite a bit of old 35mm stuff still.  I'll share some pics if anyones interested

I don't know how retro this really is, but I made my first LightScribe disc today with a JPG from the Internet Archive. While it's a bit faint (probably need to dial in the contrast a bit) I reckon it looks way better then the alternative, which is me sloppily scribbling "Windows 2000" on the disk with a permanent marker.

Well, I got my Pentium Pro going! May I present my now complete IBM PC365 with a current configuration of a Pentium Pro 200mhz, 256k L2, 64mb 168pin EDO Ram, 6.4gb Maxtor Hard Disk, ATI Rage II+ 4mb Graphics card, Sound Blaster 16 and an SMC 5030C Network Card. I'm Running Windows 95C on it though if I manage to find a second Ppro 200 256k and the VRM I can setup this system with dual processors and at that point I'd switch to Windows NT4. Even running Windows 95, I can't believe how snappy this system is. Everything loads fast and everything I've run on it so far has been flawless.

I may however change the graphics card as this system originally would have come with either a S3 Trio64 2mb or optionally a Matrox Millennium 4mb card. While I have S3 Trio cards it just doesn't feel right to run one on this. I do have one of the Matrox cards in my PC350 which is a P166 machine so I may swap a Trio64 into that and move that Matrox into this machine.

In the meantime though the ATI card does work well, I have many of them haha and while the 3D on it may not be great, at least it's something especially as neither the Matrox or the S3 would have any 3D support. Though, if I do swap in the Matrox maybe I'll have to bite the bullet and finally get a voodoo card 😛

The Pentium Pro really is a massive chip o.o

My aunts brought me an "old laptop".

I was imagining Sandy Bridge-era, but nope. It's a C2D laptop that has a 7 Home Premium install (or it did at some point).

The graphics sticker is delightfully retro too.

Toss on Xubuntu or Lubuntu and you've got a fairly functional device as it sits now, install a SSD and max the RAM/CPU on it and it'll be almost modern performance with Kubuntu and look Mac-ish enough to screw with your school-mates.

I recently found another alternative at a random Goodwill.  I figure it was a waste of $8 but might be fun to tinker with.  Much to my surprise not only is the driver easy to find but was updated in 2020. Apparently it was a more popular device in Japan.

I was even more surprised to find ribbons weren't too hard to find at Amazon Japan.

The results are rather nice too!

Only losers use virtual machines, you need era hardware for everything you’re doing with old operating systems.

Thats half the fun, I can run Vista in a VM all day but I also own a Thinkpad Z61t and a physical copy of windows vista 32 bit ultimate and that’s way cooler.

Higher end CPUs of that era were quite big indeed. It never gets old seeing a Socket 7 chip next to a big socket like LGA 2011, they're basically the same size.
