Go to solution Solved by GOTSpectrum,

For those of you wishing their system was faster....just remember, it could always be so...so much slower!

I'm just running an older Lenovo W540 with an i7-4800MQ and a *cough* lovely Nvidia Quadro K1100M.

And this last task for the GPU gave me 7 days to complete, but the eta was 9 days!! lol

I've been running FAH for 4 weeks straight (It's running 24/7) and you can see how pitiful my score is overall.

You forgot to photoshop that to show you only run RX580's.

That's on one of his other systems.  This one was a diversion.

I would never do such a thing.

This is a new build that runs a 2080 Ti.

Few days ago I overclocked my 2070S GPU slightly (core +50, mem +500) and changed my WiFi from 2.4GHz to 5GHz for faster connection. I have been running my R5 3600 on 8-core on the same system and couple other modest computers unchanged (CPU's only, old Core i5 and really old Phenom X3). After GPU OC and WiFi change my average PPD jumped from 1.3M to 1.75M. Main difference is the GPU. I wonder if there is some kind of sweet spot for WU assignments for GPU performance or was it just random? Any ideas?

Difference in cores and WUs is what jumped your PPD as well as PL you probably raised. MC does not affect PPD too much and I would advise putting it to +200 max. CC can improve PPD but not drastically, I personally OC till I hit hardware limit and then pull back a bit.

However, during summer, I leave all OCs like that or lower them a bit, but I PL all my cards between 60% and 70%.

im holding it all back and only folding on 1 rig while my other rigs mine.  Im gonna wait until june, turn the A/C way up and unleash them all!

Well I just scored a B450 board for cheap that I think/hope I can repair so I'll be tossing together something nicer than recycled Haswell hardware. If I can score another 1600 AF or a 3300X I'll feel comfortable doing CPU folding along side the P106-100 though I think I want to replace with with a 1650 or 1660 for better efficiency long term, but I need to wait until 1650's are closer to the $100 mark for that, still about $40 off. A 1600 AF would  be my ideal choice as they can undervolt and run around 70-80W flat out while remaining impressively cool under any of my apparent 3 Hyper 212 cooler I've somehow accrued over the years. Once 1650's are around $100 I think a pair of them would do just dandy along side some CPU threads for about 800k PPD while staying under 200W, what do you think?

I mean, they still did 35 million points in a day which is the equivalent of the third, fourth and fifth placed PPD combined, or, doubling all the users in the #2 Anonymous group.

So how's everybody's folding?  As things warm up here in the northern hemisphere in summer…let's see the ingenious cooling solutions people have come up with. :)

Open window, minor polar vortex (apparently, end result is nice weather anyway) in MAY, and fan taking air in at the moment. As for folding, after setting up my passkey which went through lots faster than expected, My PPD went from ~120k to ~825k not counting down time overnight (realistically half that sadly). Slowly ticking up in the rankings from 8-9k to nearing 7k in our team. Seems a Ry 3700x at 11 threads is fairly kickass. Estimating 100-110k ppd.

Yeah, we loved watching today's weather.  Sun to start the day, then heavy snow, then warm wind, then cold wind, then lots of sunny with snow showers (some while still sunny), some random small hail, and nothing stayed on the ground for more than 5 minutes, despite it being cool and windy.  Pretty awesome weather to enjoy! :)

My PPD seems to vary more with the WU its doing and how much that WU is actually using the GPU.  2 cards, both 2080ti's one OC'd one not.  If you look at either of them at any given time results vary widely.  Some WU will utilize less GPU power/usage the entire time and results in a PPD with values that reflect that.

I will say the biggest thing I have noticed, is with a max OC, WU's will sometimes fail.  I can game at +180/+750 OC just fine, no artifacts, no issues, stable FPS at about 8-10% over stock.  When I try and run a WU, it fails (and asks GPU OC'd?).  Unless I pull back the OC to a mild OC only, it seems to want to fail despite flawless performance and temps otherwise.  So I keep it at stock when its folding.  Any gain from the OC isnt worth it failing IMO.

Even then, one WU could say I will get 3.5 Mil PPD, it finishes, and the next one says I am at 2.1 Mil PPD, on the same card at the same clocks.   I think its more WU dependent than anything.

I've an old GTX 770 SC, i'm looking to get another one and an SLI bridge, yay, nay? It's for fun, never ran dual cards before and it's going in a secondary rig, would be fun to see the Folding potential? unless anyone has input?

I need to figure out the fans on the p106, I bought some but stupid me forgot there's a big slot cut out in the heat sink on each side I need to screw the fans down to...I'll have to find some longer screws and make lil spacers. In the mean time I'll probably repaste it and just zero points days will quickly knock me down off the top 1000, it was nice knowing ya!

The fans on it are too fat to sit where I want them to and move so much air it clogs up pretty fast. It's also not a good heatsink anyway. I just don't know what to stick on it to cool better without making things more expensive, not like 1060 heat sinks are all intercompatible.
