Car Enthusiast Club [Now Motorcycle friendly!] - First thread to 150k! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Don't lump me in with them. I'm an enthusiast of mechanic design, be it engines, weaponry, or productive machinery. Not a guy with a wrench that reads the marketing garbage AFE/insert other "enthusiast" brand that can't legally warranty half of their products.

I fail to see a correlation between people screeching variations of "forced induction is more efficient!!! Reclaimed energy!!!" and anything I've said.

If you can't be civil. Please leave

Edit. That goes for everyone in the thread

I've got a 5.9 Cummins producing around 600 HP and 800 ft lb torque. It's running an ATS Stage 3 Transmission. Anyone think it's worth it to do a billet motor and raise the hp to 900? It's all stock atm, The Turbo is sized pretty well (Holset HX35, Stock Turbo) so I'll change it if we go Billet but otherwise it'll stay stock. Anyone wanna race?

My car is much less loud now. New pipe has a drastically different resonator inside, has big scoop like riffles facing forward. Old one was just perf steel pipe. I bet the new one is quieter. I put header paint on the whole thing and baked the muffler end on my grill, that'll never get hot enough on it's own to cure the paint. Painted inside and out even. THEN I coated the welds in 600F silicone. Don't want to spend any more money on this car again. Tired of fixing junk on this car but I don't want to spend money on a new car either lol. Driving it till it's unsafe from rust then I'll get something to replace it. 5 more years tops....I hope less. Please let car prices drop to normal.

exactly! If the parts wouldn't be so dang expensive I'd maybe be OK with it. But geez. At least they sorted most of that out with the third gen, I think 2013 onwards they sorted pretty much all issues and those are the ones to have. It just wasn't as nice of a car though. And in the US you couldn't get a rear locking diff anymore.

But I still love the giant fuel tank, the crapload of room in the back, comfortable ride, and how well it's built... it's just a solid car. I also averaged ~25mpg in the thing, better than advertised, although I have a mainly highway commute. (any city driving I did it seemed to get like ~18 and it was very hard to get any more than that really). And the interiors, although they aren't the nicest interiors, they hold up super well judging by the ones i've seen with over 200k miles.

They just do everything you could ever need a daily driven car to do from a utilitarian standpoint. and I think they were underrated. Also no one knows it exists and everyone thinks it's a Tiguan.

Yeah, my dad had one (on a lease), and the thing would've been super expensive to own if not on a lease.

You might also be able to spot my current car in the garage 😛

The market is ridiculous. It’s looking like to replace my Touareg with something similar I’ll have to maybe spend $18-20k unless I want to wait months for that one that’s under market value (I spent $13.9k for mine, market value at the time was $16k).

makes me want to just buy a beater and just stack cash till this market gets better because this is NUTS

Yeah, Corollas and Civics, you know the dealio, you've owned both already 😂 really can't go wrong with those two.

Not sure if an older car or an American SUV (I'm sure plenty of those can be had for 5 grand) fits your definition of cheap, but you can always try to get one of those.  (since going from an 2010s VW tank to a Japanese econobox is quite the difference)

Definitely not a biased opinion from my part /s, an old German car (or a Bavarian car, ahem @techswede) can be had for cheap but won't come cheap if stuff breaks, I mean, it depends really, junkyards are a thing and things can be sourced pretty easily from what I've gathered from the US BMW community, and simple V8 powered things (LS rings a bell) won't give you much trouble but certainly don't sip on fuel.

You can find cheap pilots and MDXs around that range. Should last until you get another touareg godcar.

Yes. Those are so comfy, back when Lexus was Luxury like a nice couch and not trying to be poser sporty like all the 'luxury' brands today. LUXURY IS NOT SPORTY. LUXURY DOES NOT NEED A 7 MINUTE NURIMBERG LAP! LUXURY should feel like sitting in your favorite lazy boy chair and floating down the road in relative silence with a warm sound system and just enough power to pass semi trucks and lots of cup holders and heated everything and cold ass AC.

Yeah, For a daily that’s all I care about lol.

+ parts and stuff so cheap. And who can say no to $450 for a set of tires.

headlights yellow? Why fool with polishing when you can just get a brand new set for $200.
