I’ve had my computer now for just about three years. I have of course periodically cleaned it however, recently my CPU has started to overheat. I’m suspecting the cooler might be starting to get a little faulty and I figured I should probably upgrade it anyways, until the new intel chips come out later this year, and I do a full new build. In addition to me being unhappy with the cooling performance of it keeping my cpu under load. I currently have a scythe fuma 2 cooling my ryzen 7 5800x. My tower is fractal design Meshify c. I also have two noctua nf-a14s in the front for intake, two stock fans that came with the case (one on the top and one in the back for exhaust. I’m trying to figure out what fans/cooler to get. I’ve been debating going aio liquid cooling but have been warned about them potentially damaging parts, which has kinda scared me from getting one. Any advice? Thanks!

go deepcool LS series for aio, and thermalright peerless assassin 120 se for air cooling

if lga(whatever the fuck there going to call this one) uses a different mounting size, you may need to purchase a aftermarket bracket or something similar

It is highly unlikely your cooler has degraded. More likely, after 3 years, the thermal paste needs to be replaced. Instead of replacing the cooler, replace the paste and save yourself some money and hassle. Also, if you undervolt the CPU, you can make the temps go even lower.

As for water cooling, you don't need it and the info you got is outdated. Someone is fear-mongering or living in the past.  Not that there aren't bad water coolers, but for different reasons.

All the above-mentioned coolers are fine.

I've been using computers since around 1978, started learning programming in 1980 on Apple IIs, started learning about hardware in 1990, ran a BBS from 1990-95, built my first Windows PC around 2000, taught myself malware removal starting in 2005 (also learned on Bleeping Computer), learned web dev starting in 2017, and I think I can fill a thimble with all that knowledge. 😉 I'm not an expert, which is why I keep investigating the answers that others give to try and improve my knowledge, so feel free to double-check the advice I give.

My phone's auto-correct is named Otto Rong.🤪😂
