Don't lump me in with them. I'm an enthusiast of mechanic design, be it engines, weaponry, or productive machinery. Not a guy with a wrench that reads the marketing garbage AFE/insert other "enthusiast" brand that can't legally warranty half of their products.

I fail to see a correlation between people screeching variations of "forced induction is more efficient!!! Reclaimed energy!!!" and anything I've said.

If you can't be civil. Please leave

Edit. That goes for everyone in the thread

debating about getting 235/40R18(ST) size tires for my SE but not sure if they would be too wide for it(9.3" vs 8.5") and winter tires for it are soooo expensive, the cheapest on tirerack costs devil levels of cash(literally $666 for a set of 4) while the cheapest base size is more than $200 less($445) Summer on the other hand is about the same(well technically its summer vs all season because 215/55/r16 has a very tiny selection of summer aka only 3 different tires, so I would be better off going all season)

I am a long way from getting new tires but its so expensive if I were to get ST size tires and I don't even want to see how much RS size tires would cost

Wider tires do worse in snow, so if you live in a place with lots of snow, I would recommend against it. If not, it's your choice. I wouldn't bother getting anything other than one step up in width. One step down in sidewall will help counteract the added width of a tire.

well I live in Wisconsin so if that's the case, then that's great, it will be so much cheaper for good winter tires. really wish I had a job so I could get better tires right now, seeing as its getting really close to getting below freezing, and gravel just murders the grip with them, and seeing as I live in the country gravel roads are quite abundant...

I almost just want to not buy winter tires and deal with what I got. I likely won't be driving anywhere in the snow anyways... But there will be that one or two days when I really... really wish I did. I really don't wanna fork over like $800 for a not-total-shit set of tires UGH

Yeah

Funny thing I realized most crossovers now seem to be coming on mud and snow tires from the factory.

Lol that's so strange. I'd rather have highway tires if I were in something like that. Or at least all terrains, not an aggressive mud tire.

yeah but it kinda makes sense if they sell most of these in the colder parts of the country so they just standardized and put on them.

That's not too surprising. GM will suggest the dealer equip the tires based on the region its being sold in. Most will follow this guidance, but not all.

Lol, maybe they are expecting her to drive it on the beach. Actually, now that I think about it, that would be a bad selling point for a "family" vehicle like that.

yeah, it being on 20s means its got tons of clearance and I've seen 8 Adults fit in it.

I remember watching a sedan hybrid get stuck in the sand because it went off the hard pack. got pulled out then 50FT from the ram tried to cut again and got stuck, we just gunned it past them.

I'm surprised it didn't kill the clutch on my uncles truck.

yeah, it being on 20s means its got tons of clearance and I've seen 8 Adults fit in it.

I remember watching a sedan hybrid get stuck in the sand because it went off the hard pack. got pulled out then 50FT from the ram tried to cut again and got stuck, we just gunned it past them.

I'm surprised it didn't kill the clutch on my uncles truck.

Ya, I don't think I could do that. If I'm carrying that many, I'm getting a Suburban, or at least a Tahoe. I don't want to look like a clown car when everyone gets out. To each their own though.

Those hybrids are like the guys in diesels that forget how much the front end weighs with the thousand pound motor on the front tires. Then the guy in the 2wd half ton gasser drives by without a hitch (I've done it with my 97' in mud). Did he get stuck often?

It got a better 3rd row than both because it’s a split rear axle.

My uncle no, he’s got an early 2000s Tacoma lifted

I'm not a fan of the third row on the Tahoe because of the axle. However, on the Suburban, it isn't as much of an issue because of where the axle falls. Not to mention room for days. If you don't need it though, then you don't need it.

Why are you surprised it didn't kill his clutch?

I don't have a good picture right now. I'm going to be getting new wheels and tires for my 97 as they are getting hard to balance and starting to peel on the inside. Does anyone have any ideas on whether I should keep my current wheels, or should I change to something else? If something else, if you wouldn't at all mind, give me some ideas or suggestions.

Truck most current: (yes its a terrible picture, wife is currently driving it and I'm driving the 07' because I don't want to piss off clients)

Wheels and tires currently: Wheels are U.S. Wheels, Daytona (series 84), 15x10, 5x5 bolt pattern, 4" backspacing. Tires are Hankook H101, 275/60-15.

I call all-seasons "no-seasons". Because they're too compromised to be good at anything in particular. So Ironic, lol.

There are some all-season classified tires that are decent in the dry and wet, but not much beyond that.

@FuzzyYellow recommended these to me last year, and honestly. I've been blown away by them. Grip just as well in the wet as the dry, and eliminated wheel spin off the line that I was getting with my Pilot Super Sports. Would absolutely recommend, even though it is an All season

So do I, but they are getting harder to obtain and most tire shops can't put 275s on a 10" wide rim, unless they are over the age of 50.

I can't get 22s underneath very easily without rubbing and the tire starts to look a bit thin with a max tire height of about 29". If I go with a 295/30-22 i only get 3.5" of sidewall. 20" I can do depending on the width of the tire, like 275/40-20.

I don't have anything against 22s as I have them on my 07' and I think they look proportionate on it. However with my '97 they start to look oversized.

Yes, it's what I (well, and my wife...) have to look at, but outsiders can give different outlooks and ideas that I may have overlooked.
