Don't lump me in with them. I'm an enthusiast of mechanic design, be it engines, weaponry, or productive machinery. Not a guy with a wrench that reads the marketing garbage AFE/insert other "enthusiast" brand that can't legally warranty half of their products.

I fail to see a correlation between people screeching variations of "forced induction is more efficient!!! Reclaimed energy!!!" and anything I've said.

If you can't be civil. Please leave

Edit. That goes for everyone in the thread

A Ghibli is just about the worst car investment ever. Not only is it gonna depreciate like hell, you also look like a cheapo lease that couldn't afford a Ferrari. Who would honestly buy one over the E Class AMG.

Although i am the resident merc fanboy. And i love the E class. but i would quite possibly lean 55% towards the Ghibli over the E class.

I wouldn't go for the Ghibli but I would probably opt for a S6 if I were to spend that much money on a quickly depreciating asset. IIRC the merc comes with a V6. But I haven't heard much positive at all about the Ghibli.

What's your impression of the P100D?

It made the acceleration of the GT-R I've been driving all weekend seem tame... it smacks your head on the headrest unless you are concentrating and have it time well, it's honestly easier to just put your head against the headrest before smashing the go pedal. And no joke, it gets a little harder to breath. I'm not saying you'll go into asthma attack mode (well maybe if you actually have asthma), but you definitely feel the difference in the first couple seconds of acceleration.

I did a launch mode launch on the GT-R about 15 mins after driving the Tesla, what felt like too much power all weekend suddenly feels kinda tame.  During the Tesla test drive it felt like it was all in the initial hit, the first couple seconds, and then other fast cars would take it, but going to the GT-R right after proved otherwise.  The Tesla launches harder and it keeps you planted in the seat harder.

In the Tesla, its not just the instant power of electric motors, its also the capability to do a very finely tuned traction control system.  You can put down power right to the edge of traction (where tires make disproportionately the most grip, basically the jump from 95% to 99% is a significantly bigger increase in grip than 4%).  You just don't have the kinda control in an ICE traction control setup, even full race systems.  The GT-R lights up all for wheels for about the first 20 feet, the Tesla just hooks and goes.

That being said, I'd take an V8 R8 over both a GT-R and a P100D

here are the 2 cars I drove all weekend :D

Haha. I'm mildly asthmatic so i'll have to try that out xD

But yeah. The finer control over power distribution does make a massive difference in electric cars.

Excited for the future of electric cars. (Although not tesla. SpaceX yes. Tesla no)

Yeah i'd probably take the V8 R8 as well.

But it does seem like you had a pretty eventful weekend :)

beautiful cars, but if bone stock, i'd go r8. if i can tune it up to my preference, i'd go gt-r, even if pretty much everybody has one.

The GT-R has a tune and a couple other mods.  I just like the way the R8 drives better, its not nearly as fast, in fact I think my Mustang was faster in a straight line.  But I love how it feels when you're pushing it near the limit.

I'm excited for what tech Tesla shares with other manufacturers. But i'll still rather buy my first EV from a well established manufacturer.

And there is a tinge of smugness still in the zero emissions car buyer that gets a Tesla. Not all. But its sort of a prius situation.

I'd rather have a Merc. Or maybe Rimac. I'd like to see what they come up with.

SpaceX on the other hand.. Get my arse to Mars.

I bet the R8 was great in the twisties.

Yeah. Found out you can get a rear fog light on those kinda like how Volvo has.

You need the rear fog light, the euro tail lights, a pre 2012 build date, and euro headlight switch. Then I think, to program it in with vag com but I don't know for sure.

What I do know, is that they're sexy and I want  the one with the v10 in it.

The V10 models also got all LED headlights.

I has rear fogs

A rear foglight is legally required in a lot of countries here.

I felt the same way about the old Quattroporte. I feel like Maserati lost some of its sinister character with their new designs. As for depreciation, every car depreciates but the way people switch in and out of cars in the US, people should really pay attention to it more. I'm more interested in not having a car payment and keeping a car for a while.

My dad's USDM Audi a6 has rear fogs (but interestingly no front fogs)

I think they build all the Audi's in Germany still tho and ship em here. So probably one of those unnecessary but there things

I like rear fogs tho... They def help, every few years we'll have a bad fog accident somewhere around here because someone didn't see the person in front and then a pile up ensues
