Don't lump me in with them. I'm an enthusiast of mechanic design, be it engines, weaponry, or productive machinery. Not a guy with a wrench that reads the marketing garbage AFE/insert other "enthusiast" brand that can't legally warranty half of their products.

I fail to see a correlation between people screeching variations of "forced induction is more efficient!!! Reclaimed energy!!!" and anything I've said.

If you can't be civil. Please leave

Edit. That goes for everyone in the thread

I mean its stylish. And looks like a great place to be.. Just don't like full touch infotainment systems.

All these systems are the biggest steps to planned obsolescence in the auto industry. Can't replace them because they're integral and value of the cars is directly impacted by it. As it gets older, it becomes slower and slower, and there is nothing you can do besides get a new car.

One can only hope that the average consumer starts getting irritated by it.

They are in the high 70's in the usa.

You can get a +4 for about the same price as a lotus elise though.

Thought the +4's came with triumph engines? Also you could always do an engine swap

+4's are only marginally cheaper. And came with engines from Standard motors at first. Then Triumph four cylinders. And now they have ford engines.

Only way anything changes is if there are laws implemented. Its a big selling point of cars right now. People look at a car, the salesman shows them how cool the fancy touch screen is, then they buy it. Its only a few months down the road when people realize its getting laggy, the bluetooth has issues, it crashes, etc. Then they get rid of it. I see a ton of newer cars with less than 10k miles listed on cars.com and craigslist. More than I've seen in the past.

Its my assumption that people are dumping these cars because they get fed up with the infotainment. If you look at consumer report's reliability rankings; a lot of manufactures that were once reliable are now dropping in ratings because of infotainment complaints... and NVH.

And the only way that law is implemented is if there are many accidents attributed to distracted driving due to people staring at the screen trying to figure out how to turn the seat heater on :/.

Problem is that if the government upped the limit by 20. People would quickly start going 20 over that.

I've heard that argument before, but I really don't think that would happen.

People tend to drive at speeds they feel most comfortable with, depending on the road and regardless of the posted limit. That's why sometimes, you're driving along and look down to find you're going 20 over without realizing it.

A major part of the problem is that police do not enforce the limits in a consistent manner. There is almost always an acceptable range in which they don't care if you're going over. On most 4+ lane highways, this is between 20-30kph over the limit. In most 80 zones, it's between 10-20kph over. I've lost count of the number of times I've spotted a cop on patrol while going over 100 in an 80 zone, and surprisingly, they don't give chase. Yet another day, if they're feeling like it, they'd pull you over for going 15 over in an 80.

Here's what they should do, IMO.

-Raise 80 zones to 90 or 100 where it's logical and safe to do so.

-Raise 100 zones to 110-120 also where it's safe and logical to do so (the 407 could easily be set to 140, IMO). @chaozbandit Am I right? ;)

-ACTUALLY ENFORCE the limit. Maybe allow a 5-10kph buffer, but anyone doing 10+ gets pulled over/ticketed. If the limit is that high, there's no reason to be going faster. If the limits are more reasonable and properly enforced, people will be more likely to adhere to it.

@MEC-777 yes, I was going to say people will only drive at a maximum speed they are comfortable with. Somewhere around 95mph the average person starts to get a bit fearful.

I'd happily pay 20-40c per km if I could legally do 150-160kph. Otherwise, whats the point of a toll road if it's just going to be as congested as the 401 during peak?

The only issue I see with upping speed limits is that people will become used to those speeds. I see people shortly after starting to speed over that limit as they get accustomed.

Modern cars are such easy drivers that people would probably start getting more comfortable of the higher speeds and then start going over that.

Or so I think.

The traffic minister also recently proposed that you should get fined for going 1kmh over the limit.

The funny thing is that people probably wouldnt be too annoyed by it, because the Police budget is so severely cut that almost never see them anymore.

I haven't been stopped in 4 years.
