Don't lump me in with them. I'm an enthusiast of mechanic design, be it engines, weaponry, or productive machinery. Not a guy with a wrench that reads the marketing garbage AFE/insert other "enthusiast" brand that can't legally warranty half of their products.

I fail to see a correlation between people screeching variations of "forced induction is more efficient!!! Reclaimed energy!!!" and anything I've said.

If you can't be civil. Please leave

See my edit about shift linkage

You make it work pretty much. If you do go auto, you can just get a floor shift kit and cable. If you get the motor from a chevy truck, then you can pretty much just pull motor, trans, and ECU. If manual, well all you need is to line it up, cut holes for the shifter, and make brake lines to the slave cylinder.

Ok so what manual transmission would work for a 4WD application that bolts to an LS?

@vetali what's that 2.7L i4 engine code you mentioned?

honestly if you're ok with replacing head gaskets, this guy is selling one for 250. http://chico.craigslist.org/pts/5940913207.html

i don't think there's a GM transmission that works in 4WD and bolts up to an LS. unless our american truck gearheads have a clue.

I would actually build it around your transfer case. One big problem I see is the front diff is on the other side from chevys on those toyotas if I remember right. Its right biased rather than left.

I personally would want an automagic if im off road. That way im not slipping the clutch when i need to get un stuck, and just run a pair of medium sized tranny coolers.

But... Stickshift out of a C5? With an adapter for a transfer case out of a silverado?

EDIT: get a tranny and transfer case out of a manual silverado, and have driveshafts cut to length. Boom.

silverados came in manual? i didn't know that at all actually, i thought they had automatics because they were technically stronger or something.

@bcredeur97 there's a guy in your area selling a 4.0 v6 from a 2006 tacoma, a tad expensive, but is also selling a supercharger too. http://neworleans.craigslist.org/pts/5894506431.html maybe too expensive?

we barely know how to get a 3.4L 5VZ-FE to mount up to the transfer case and what transmission to get for that swap, much less a 4.0L swap...

we don't even know what transfer case we have xD

we have a lot of don't knows...

it'll be too rare. best we just stick with toyota parts... matt would rather keep it toyota anyway

so we need to figure out what transfer case we have, whether or not we can even use it. and then what transmission, engine, bellhousing, etc. whatever we need to get to make it all fit together and just bolt in like it belongs there lol

ok, so do your research, see what hooks up to the transmission, then report back what you find.

How would you guys spend $100 at napa. I got a gift card to there. Im thinking ill do another rear end oil change, and flush out my coolant again.

That gives me the list of:

- royal purple gear oil

- diff gasket

- and concentrated dexcool

- distilled water

and i think ill spend the rest on 5w-30 synthetic blend.

And i might try running full synthetic just to see how it will do. I think its gonna end up leaking more of it out... ;-;

I'd spend the money just like that.

so we figured out that we need the following:
5VZ-FE

R150F transmission OR R151F(shorter first gear and stronger) with a R150F bellhousing

transfer case from a 1988 V6 toyota truck.

The first two wont be too hard, the last part might be difficult if our transfer case that we have turns out to be useless. why don't transfer cases have codes?! it's kinda stupid...

this guy is selling parts off his 4runner, which includes his tranny/transfer case for 750. http://neworleans.craigslist.org/pts/5893975923.html i say try to negotiate a deal for just a transfer case. it looks like it was pulled off a 3.0 v6 4runner.

i googled 1988 toyota pickup transfer case, and this website popped up in the results. http://www.4x4wire.com/toyota/faq/parts/ scroll down to tranfer cases. this might help you.

So buddy of mine owns this 1986 MA70 Supra and he wrecked it right before the first snow fall, currently working on tearing the rear end out to start doing some body work and start throwing money at it..

I did all the maintenance on it and all the detailing of it for him, cause I loved this supra probably more then he did...

hmm, is your buddy gonna tear down and part out the supra, or is he gonna fix his supra? honestly if you can find a windshield and rear bumper, and are able to fix the suspension and replace the wheel, you might be fine.
