he won't be doing the work I will, he couldn't fix it to save his life.....we drove 3 hours into mass to get a parts vehicle for the whole rear end and a good motor and tranny. The biggest problem is the frame is bent to shit on the passenger side rail

oh if the frame is bent to shit, i wouldn't bother trying to fix it honestly. even if you work day and night getting it straightened, it's never gonna perform as well as a perfectly good frame. i say just pull the good parts and either sell it for money or you buy a project car and swap the good parts in.

its a hard spot for him cause his family love the car and the bought it for him as a gift, but he knows that even if we got the frame taken care of professionally it will cost more then he could afford saving for a year

i see there is sentimental value, but i think his safety and cost to fix take priority sadly. as much as i hate to say let it go, he's got to unfortunately. maybe just take good parts out of it and transfer to a car he can build up safely and in good condition.

Yeah sentimental value plays the biggest role in this all right now...hell the jetta he is driving right now has less miles then my own and is running tit. I am gonna be letting him use it as long as he will need to.

ok so we have 21 splines and a 7 bolt cover. Which means we have a 21 spline RF1A transfer case, which means we can't use it. We have to get a 23-spline, VF1A or RF1A (the 23-spline version) transfer case in order to make the engine swap. 

 

luckily we found one for $150 in Pineville, LA lol

so does that mean you can swap in a 5vz in there? i'm actually hyped to see you swap in something good. and what are you gonna do in terms of transmission. i know you're going manual, but what tranny do you think of doing? you should make sure they hook up to your engine of choice well.

the 2jz goes for cheap around here, I wanna do a 2jzgte bottom end with a 2jz(na) top end , tranny I'm not sure yet at all. suspension I'll get a hold of a rep I know to see if they are making coils for the mk3's or if they could even make then for it.

why not do a 1.5jz, 2jz bottom end, 1jz top end. and maybe in terms of transmission, maybe a r154 transmission, though those are quite expensive. maybe a getrag 420g might hook up to a 2jz.

Good idea actually, I'll have to poke around on the supra fourms regrading the swap and what people are doing for bottom and top ends

ya sure, but a breathable head means you can push more hot air into the turbo, spinning it mucho rapido in shorter times. in other words, more boost sooner.

7m motor is horrible to boost, 1jz or 2jz are better to boost. I've seen 7mgte's blown up with the boost only turned up 2psi

i've always heard a 1.5jz was the best of both worlds. very strong 2jz bottom end, high breathing 1jz head so you can spin turbos faster and earlier.

It might just be, I know the 7m motor is horrible for boosting, i've rebuilt a few 7mgte's and no amount of money makes that motor good for boosting

right now we are trying to figure out the engine mount problem. since matt bought a truck that was originally a 4 cylinder (just found that out thanks to the transfer case issue), then that means the V6 wont just bolt in because the frame mounts on the I4 are in a different location...

 

So now we are kinda stuck on what to do about that. Also can't foget that this truck had a chevy 350 v8 swap in it at some point(or maybe it didn't.. im a very confused man right now) which means the mounts are probably messed up as it is...

yeah, because those idiots running boosted 7mgtes turn up the boost with stock internals. there's a guy on this thread (forgot his name though) who has a boosted 7mgte with a built bottom end and he's trying to get it to run on 20psi of boost. and the idle itself was super lumpy, almost quad rotary engine lumpy.

hmm i say just make custom v6 motor mounts using plate metal if you've got the skills to weld up a set. that is, if you don't care if the engine movements shatter your rear end (yours, not the car's). if you care about comfort, then idk.

 

 

ok, i say ditch the v6 and i4, and go 1uz. this company can create custom mounts for the engine, and bellhousings, and basically everything needed to swap a 1uz into a 1988 pickup. http://northwesttoysllc.com/?page_id=22 check em out.

tune, tune, tune he could be running 262 cams or something. It could be a massive number of things. I know when I built the bottom end of my Jetta it had a little bit of a rough time at first, tuned it and now its at 22psi steady, 24 peak on 100octane file on 93 it does 18 steady 22 peak
