Belt was easy. Not the easiest car I've ever done but not hard at all.

this thing looked like the hood hasn't been opened since it was new. Dirt and grease and junk everywhere. So naturally being the nice guy I am, I had to clean it up a bit as I went. Go the extra mile, per say. Just wiped stuff down as I went.

here ate was end result:

the belt was in shambles. Looked like it would fly apart at any minute. Probably original...

Damn that was dusty.

I have a sudden urge to buy an old beetle engine replicate their mods and end up with this sound.

Ha! That should be the least of their concerns considering I had to jump on the throttle to simply start the thing (and there was a CEL but it was only for the fuel level sensor in the gas tank so idk why it didn't want to start, long term fuel trim was like -13% though)

that said ill be on the road for 9.5 hours tom. Plan is to leave at 5:50 AM so I get there for sunrise :o

no. I'm going to all these places in this order (see spoiler)

reason is for money. I get $3.50 a house. Have to take 10 pictures of the front of each (why so many I have no idea) I'm told it's for FEMA estimations and so they can get an idea of whether certain places were flooded or not. But the job itself is like passed through 3 different companies before it ended up in my hands lol (FEMA, an insurance company, my friend matt's preservation business, and then he passed it to me).

Now to figure out what to do if someone asks me why im taking pics of their house on a saturday...

well i mean you can always retrofit bluetooth through aux with a dongle, if you don't mind it looking kinda out of place. and besides, you were never able to charge your iphone (or any phone for that matter) directly through aux in a car. i mean, none of my cars have bluetooth, but the corolla has an aux port, and i can just buy an bluetooth adapter through aux to play music and also for hands free.

My car is 15 years old at this point. And didn't come with an AUX (nor BT, go figure).

My point is that you can't have a simple solution of just hooking up the phone without adapters and stuff. Unless you feel like wiring a dedicated lightning cable under the dash or something that hides the adapter.

wow, i knew the engine was gonna be powerful, but there is like NOTHING to back up that power. like no exhaust note that proves how mean this engine is. i mean the engine is powerful, no doubt, but that exhaust is just too damn restrictive.

well it's an e46, does it not have the flexible electronics system, that, in the 4th gen, allows for a widescreen head unit with bluetooth and aux, or does it not fit a widescreen in there?

and aftermarket head units, like those offered by Pioneer and Kenwood dual din systems, have ports in the back of the unit to hide the cable for things like android auto and apple carplay.

I might be able to retrofit an AUX jack with my current head unit. But it would require me to tear down my dash in order to access the head unit. Not really something I am too comfortable with.

And as for aftermarket stuff. I puke at the thought of installing one. All of them looks horribly out of place. NEVER. EVER.

seriously? i thought you can just remove the knobs, undo a couple screws, and pull it out.

and i can actually tolerate the aftermarket stuff, at least the quality stuff. as long as i can get an adapter to fit whatever car i want, it shouldn't look too bad, especially in cars which can natively fit double din systems.

Yeah. You have to remove some of the paneling to get to the back of it.

And the E46 uses a normal double-din in terms of height. But it's wider than a normal din.

Here is what most aftermarket head units will look like.

Sounds bad, bad throttle response, probably just as bad gas mileage.

I really don't see a point to it.

Also, I have said this before. But I just become aggravated whenever I see Snowcat and his videos.

Edit: To drive my point home. The guy needs to forgive and forget. He gets riled up whenever someone does something wrong, even going so far as to provoking them by excessively honk and rev at them, sometimes even stop to yell at them. I just see this as road rage, and large quantities of it as well.

He shouldn't say anything. Just shake his head, and go on his merry way.

ah, i guess it was only the m3 that allowed a 16:9 stereo setup, the same one in the e39 m5. unless you can relocate the hvac controls and allow the MKIV system retrofit. but i see your point about how aftermarket kits might look ugly. i typically hate most single din systems, because of the stylistic aspects that just disgust me. i'd buy one if it was cheap and actually looked good, which isn't a thing. that's why i like touchscreen double din systems.

emissions? typically they emit less emissions than a comparable v8.
