Don't lump me in with them. I'm an enthusiast of mechanic design, be it engines, weaponry, or productive machinery. Not a guy with a wrench that reads the marketing garbage AFE/insert other "enthusiast" brand that can't legally warranty half of their products.

I fail to see a correlation between people screeching variations of "forced induction is more efficient!!! Reclaimed energy!!!" and anything I've said.

If you can't be civil. Please leave

Edit. That goes for everyone in the thread

Oh yeah, with that much air you need a lot of fuel for it.

I like the way it sounds. Understated and stealthy. And it has that subtle turbo flutter sound (BOV) in the intake.

Sounds bad, bad throttle response, probably just as bad gas mileage.

I really don't see a point to it.

Can't judge throttle response by revving off idle. It depends how they are hitting the pedal. Most stock engines don't react well to instant WOT from idle. They aren't F1 engines. ;)

Point is you get better efficiency when not under heavy/moderate loads, but you still get the power when you need it.

but at least you can make most of your power down low, especially in a big engine like that, since it's essentially shoving air into the engine for you, instead of the engine having to suck in the air itself.

i mean i would go for it if i'm trying to quieten my cabin, or put some in the doors to improve the quality of my speakers, to try and soundproof outside noises.

My question was more along the lines of what materials are out there at a reasonable price

i think foam might be a good start. like just straight foam.

Would have to be some pretty thick and dense foam though :/

Trying to find something that wouldn't be too thick

It's not like larger displacement engines have problems with making power in the low range.

ok, but some engines, like mercedes twin turbo v8s and v12s, make peak torque (usually over 600lb ft) at essentially idle.

iirc, i saw this one insulation material where it's like 2 layers of foam, sandwiched between 2 sheets of aluminum foil. and that stuff does work, even when it's compressed to half an inch thick. but its pretty expensive. like 70 bucks for a 5ft x10ft roll.

Well the 600 pound feet at "idle" is more because it's a v12 rather than its a twin turbos.

And I think you're talking about dynamat which @techswede if you're gonna go to all the trouble of insulating your whip, you might as well go all the way and do it with this stuff

Dynamat is worryingly expensive..

These are my options

(The camaro barely has any sound proofing at all. Mat on steel, So anything would be an improvement)

even still, the twin turbo 5.5 liter v8 can still produce over 600lb ft at 2000rpm. and i was wrong about the twin turbo v12. they make over 700lb ft at near idle.

maybe just get some foam padding under neath the mat for now, and when you have more money, you can soundproof the whole car. but i don't get why the americans would just put a mat on steel like that.

Found the Rpo sticker. It was on the driver side door. (Strange since i looked earlier...)

GU5 rear. Good. 3.23's

No G80. Phew..

F41 Suspension System, Firm Ride Handling, Front and Rear. And it still looks like its on stilts xD

Went out to have a proper in depth look. Turns out there is a bit of sound proofing under the floor mat.

E5vpD70.jpg

As it turns out i'm missing a bolt.

The source of the noise is probably the trunk.

EmOwIWV.jpg

There really is no sound proofing here at all

mYua9RY.jpg

5vqKtig.jpg

The steel is sooo incredibly clean though <3

There is still a lot of stuff to soundproof though. Look at the size of this rear hatch

I0iZh7x.jpg

If i ever broke down i could just open that and sail home. OR i could take that off and i'd have a pickup truck.

The doors also need a bit of sound proofing.

Q1aCFPU.jpg

You may also notice that the dash doesn't look plastic at all

And they are also huge. Ah the first world problems of owning a coupe..

According to the RPO codes. This was built in canada. And has two emissions packages. (Which maybe makes sense as its a california car?)

According to the RPO codes my camaro has "Twilight sentinel headlights"  (T82)

"On an automobile, Twilight Sentinel is a device on General Motors' cars that senses outside light and turns the exterior lights on and off depending on lighting conditions."

I wonder if this still works at all

ok so apparently i can try to retrofit a wiper stalk onto my protege that has variable speed wipers, since my car right now doesn't have the variable speed feature. it's useful, because i can control how fast the wipers work depending on the rain. but it's kinda sad how i need to retrofit this onto a top of the line protege from 2002, when my minivan is a base model with 2001 with not even power windows, yet has this variable wiper speed feature.

Really hope a bit of foam in the trunk will sort out the road noise. After that its time to get into the mods^^
