Don't lump me in with them. I'm an enthusiast of mechanic design, be it engines, weaponry, or productive machinery. Not a guy with a wrench that reads the marketing garbage AFE/insert other "enthusiast" brand that can't legally warranty half of their products.

I fail to see a correlation between people screeching variations of "forced induction is more efficient!!! Reclaimed energy!!!" and anything I've said.

If you can't be civil. Please leave

Edit. That goes for everyone in the thread

Lots of newer cars don't even have dipsticks, which is plain awkward. BMW are notorious for it.

You pretty much need the laptop if it’s German. It helps a lot.

Versa Note shares the same motor as the Sentra, although i actually think the Sentra has upgrade to a 1.8.

It’s a 6-speed, and those only came loaded. ??‍♂️

Today I found out that the PCV valve in my engine has not been working as it should, because there was a bit of oil in the hose running from the valve to the intake manifold. The engine has a bunch of problems associated with a bad PCV valve like oil that smells like gas, an idle rpm that fluctuates by 50rpm, and oil leaks. Once I get a replacement valve, I'll check out the cylinder head to see if there's any sludge buildup since I don't know how long the valve has been malfunctioning.

replace the PCV valve with a OEM unit. replace the hose too if it looks original.

idk why but all the aftermarket ones are terrible/don't work right.

Hey guys. Could somebody explain what are "Dyno Stages?" I see some tuners here in my city talking like "Stage 2 (x)whp dyno run". I heard that stages are pure marketing, but does it mean the same when the tuners use that term? Doing a quick research on google, I found this, refering to the "level" of mods done to the engine.

Stage 1 - n/a
Stage 2 - Intake, Exhaust & Downpipe
Stage 3 - Intake, Exhaust, Downpipe & FMIC
Stage 4 - Turbo, Injectors, Intake, Exhaust, Downpipe & FMIC

it's marketing term used to describe different packages offered that provide you with varying levels of power.

i.e. stage 1 is +10hp

stage 2 is + 15hp

stage 3 is +17hp

just an example.

and they are company specific... so basically meaningless when comparing two different cars with parts from different places.

so all you can do is talk numbers... hp and torque @ x rpm

Thank you so much! And what about SAE Horsepower (or SAE HP), BHP? They also talk about that sh#t. -_-

Usually, they get a lower Wheel Horsepower Number and then convert to SAE WHP, which gives a higher number. How's that?

SAE, the society of automotive engineers, has their own horsepower measuring standard. And so... thats what SAE horsepower *IS*

but different dynos on different days will give you different numbers. Hard to go off of them really. horsepower is more or less a ballpark estimate.. and that goes for anything.

We can reliably measure gains (test before and test after) so long as it's roughly within the same time period and temperature and weather. but that's about all we can go off of. the number itself isn't perfect.. don't expect it to be.

that said... you'll probably notice if something has 50 more horsepower than it originally did.

BHP- Break horsepower is engine HP measured at the crankshaft of the engine (usually is the number the manufacturers say since its higher than WHP)

WHP - Wheel Horsepower is power measured at the wheels of the car, so that is basically the BHP with all the drivetrain losses

and @bcredeur97 explained the SAE HP better than i could
