Posted February 28, 2018 I rent mine because I can exchange it every time a new one is on the market to the latest one without extra charges. Additionally I have a warranty as long as I rent it. When I buy it only 1 year.
Posted February 28, 2018 Currently renting, but later I'll get my own once I switch my ISP. (It has routing/wifi built in, but we all know those are s*** so my router handles everything besides modulation)
 Posted February 28, 2018 I don't know for sure if we pay for it but it is a rental and I do not doubt thet a few extra dollars are thrown on the bill for renting it. I do plan on buying my own modem in the future to alleviate that. Also the modems WebUI for router functions like port forwarding, DHCP, wireless options, etc is crap. Super slow and the layout is confusing. Posted February 28, 2018 No. But my ISP provided a modem for free. And sometimes you don't have a choice. I'm almost certain AT&T was charging a rental fee for the modem when we were on it, but you can't use any other modem because AT&T sucks like that. I have a blog! And a list of guides I've posted

Posted February 28, 2018 well yes and no, we dont pay anything aditional to use the modem/router combo from my ISP, but it has to go back once we stop using them iirc(which is a good thing because its fucking garbage) I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays... nothing, it just sits there collecting dust... Posted February 28, 2018 My isp charges way to much for crappy unreliable modems from 10 years ago. So I just went to bestbuy and got a nice $100 one and had it for 3 years now and I haven't had a problem with it. But my isp really didn't want to activate it when I initially installed it. Posted February 28, 2018 my isp sent a hit squad after me for that equipment i paid for it straight out when i moved. but because they deal with the renting thing they assumed i stole the modem from my last place. I actually had to contact their support to tell the hit squad to stop. it took weeks before they stopped calling me had to go through fiscal and everything to get it straightened out. Posted February 28, 2018 My ISP charges but we bought our own. So we saved about $120 a year. I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

Posted March 1, 2018 I purchased my own when I moved into my current house a few years ago. It has since paid for itself. The rental for a modem from my isp is about $5 a month. I would much rather pay $100 up front for a good modem and save money in the long run.
