Is it harder to get into a physical college while doing online school than physical school?

My friend tells me that since i'm doing online school it will be harder for me to get into a college but he says if you're at a physical school you can get into college easier. He says colleges don't care about grades 100%.

I can´t answer that but what I can tell you is that I would not go to college in the US.

 

I had once a pretty cool English from Hawaii and he said to us that he is telling all his friends in the US to send their children to a university abroad. The universities there have basically no fees, for example, Europe. You know the American situation  

Degrees are also basically the same in first world countries if you are no Harward student

But I think this person does have somewhat of a point, if you're from the USA. That is because American colleges seem to prefer students that did extra curricular activities while in high school, which are just a tad bit harder to with an online high school. It's not all about your grades an SAT.

Well, I'm here to tell you that your friend is full of shit.  Online schooling is different from public schooling, but thus far it has proven to be a valid schooling option.  Heck, for that matter, it's pretty much a type of homeschooling, which has already proven itself as a way to get educated.  Throughout history, SOOOOO many people have been homeschooled, gotten into college, and then done amazing things with their lives.  Some examples include: Patrick Henry, Alexander Graham Bell, Thomas Edison, Robert Frost, FDR, J.R.R. Tolkien...the list goes on!

 

And colleges DO care about grades more than you know.  I mean...having a GPA of 3.0 will probably be good enough for most colleges, so it's not like the bar is set all that high.  However, most colleges will not even give you a chance without a certain SAT or ACT score and GPA.

 

I'd recommend asking teachers, your parents, and any other trusted adults for college advice.  Besides that, you're better off just getting good grades in high school and then researching colleges yourself, tbh.  Trust me.

Most universities abroad charge special prices for foreign students.

But to get into a college you have to do extra curricular activities either playing basketball or a club, but volunteering and or getting a job can do the sane

Tell your friend he will never get into college if he thinks that because his IQ must be like 8, colleges take whoever can qualify grade wise because then they get your money, only colleges it’s hard to get into is the big ones that cost like $20k a semester and thays becase you have to prove you can afford it lol or have to have a family thays well known

I never did extra curricular and I got into college, I never even got one A in high school. My GPA was like 2.0

 

and I got into a four year real college not a Community college.

 

why don’t you ask teachers or counselors at school who have info on this alredy and can tell you specific qualifications for specific colleges, when we on this fourm have no idea because we don’t know what college you are talking about

 

evey college has different rules and requirements to get in. There is not a one answer for evething.

 

so take the initiate and ask a school conunsler about t and they can tell you everything you need to know. Or just call the college and ask they will be more then happy to help. Asking a tech forum is not the best place for answers on this. We’re just going to give you shots in the dark 

 

if you remotely believe your friend you have more to worry about then school becase you need to be smart to get into it lol

???  What college you plan to go into?

 

I have yet to go to a college/university that care about if it was an online or physical.  They just wanted my GPA and how many courses hours I completed.

Now, the higher tier Universities maybe different.

 

Plus, at least the ones I went to, they will make you do an entrance style exam to see where you fall in Math, English, and Reading.  Though, there are ways to wiggly around those.

Funny because a majority actually almost all students in high end college come from foreign countries

I can only speak for my country (Germany). I know that our universities do not charge more for foreign students and that´s why my teacher probably said it. Most Bachelors are in German but there are some now in English due to foreign demand.

 

My university, for example, has recently proudly announced that they have ~7% foreign students and that they plan/hope that it will go up to 10% in the next years.

At the university I went to, UCSD, they throw your application out without even looking through it if your GPA isn't 3.5 or higher.

I can only speak from my own experience, but it's not as hard to get into colleges as a lot of people probably think. You don't have to have straight A's, you don't need to know another language, and you don't have to do sports. I was a decent student in high school, nothing to write home about. I applied to one college and I was excepted to one college haha, as long as you're not going for a big university you should be fine, I went to a technical college and graduated with a BS, all for much cheaper than basically any University. A degree from a technical college is just as valid a one from a University.

Agree, if someone wants to go to a big Uni, best thing to do is knock out the basic core classes at a lower community college (ensure the credits transfer though) then go to a big Uni.  Saves a whole lot of money.

Community Colleges generally take every one. You can then go there for a semester or two, get the basic shit out of the way and get in to a 4 year university. Thats what I did when I went back to school. Plus its cheaper. Because I can tell you a bachelors degree is not cheap. Talk about $50,000 in Federal Student loans.
