Ah there it is!

I think for my build it recommended like 600-800w but I am currently only using a 1060

I am a bit curious how well the 290s would do. On the UD3R they were spaced too close to breathe and really didn't work well.

Of course, CF 290s won't perform like the 1080ti does, but I am trying to not cannibalize the one working computer. Yet.

They should do pretty well, the biggest limitation for some games will be the vram

That seems like overkill. It must be generous on the wattage to play it safe.

Yep. I've got my 1000W PSU in the mail anyways tho, so should have plenty of headroom.

Yeah, comparing it with the Cooler Master PSU Calculator, Outervision appears a little higher & recomends EVGA PSUs while Cooler Master is lower results & recomends...Cooler Master PSUs

http://www.coolermaster.com/power-supply-calculator/

Stock i5-2500k & GTX 780, 2x4GB sticks of DDR3 RAM, 1 7200RPM HDD & 1 5400RPM HDD, 1 DVD+/-RW Drive, gaming keyboard & mouse, 4 120mm fans, 1 24" LED Monitor (Outervision only option), 16 hours/day utilization time, 8 hours gaming/video editing/3D rendering time (Outervision only option)

Outervision: Load Wattage of 527 Recomended Wattage of 577W, Outervision PSU recomendation also includes the diffrent 80+ ratings & a yearly energy cost (with monitor) payback period & Amperage (combined), 80+ recomends the EVGA 650W N1 80+ Non-Rated, 80+ Bronze recomends the EVGA 750W BQ, 80+ gold recomends the EVGA SuperNOVA 850W GQ, 80+ Platinum recomends the EVGA SuperNOVA 850W P2 & 80+ Titanium recomends the 850W T2, for Amperage it says 9.5A from the +3.3V & 11.3A from the +5V for 88W while the +12V is 36.5A for 439W.

Cooler Master says 513W load with 563W recomended with the recomended PSU being the Cooler Master GM series G750M.

People in the PSU section of the forums here says a Corsair CX550M would be enough, if I OC the 2500k to 4.5GHz with the stock 1.3V Vcore(for example purposes, Vcore would likely be higher, if 4.5GHz is even capible on my 2500k) though then Outervision says 560W load with 610W recomended with the +12V going up to 39.3A for 472W, Cooler Master says 545W load, 595W recomended.

Looks like 1.53V is a no-go for daily systems. Getting Bluescreens a couple days in, if anyone wants me to I can throw in a different CPU and run it for a while at flat 1.5V.

Xeon e5649@4.4 GHz on Asus Rampage II Extreme or Gigabyte x58a-OC (whatever I feel like to set up at a time) , 6x4 GB Kingston HyperX 1600, Gainward GTX 670 Phantom, Samsung 840 Evo 240 GB, BeQuiet L8 530W

I'm selling my X58. Asus Rampage III Formula. It's on eBay if anyone wants to see it. I did all I can do with it (Stable at 4.62Ghz with liquid cooling). I am going to move on to a new project. Considering getting an older 2009 Mac pro with that cool case and modding it to put a new mobo and make it a Ryzen/Windows rig, but looking cool.

So, not sure if I'm allowed to post links to eBay here and I need 100 posts on this forum to qualify to post to classified (I'm in the high 70s')

You can easily find it on eBay if you search for it. Asking a reasonable amount and I am also going to sell the X5670 and the ram. If you are interested let me know. We can work out a combo deal I guess. I'm a bad hoarder and I have a hard time letting go, but the wife won't let me buy new stuff until I sell the older stuff.

p.s. I have the GPU shroud from a Cooler Master Cosmos 1000. My wife threw out the case! :( I told her I was going to use it for something... But I still have the shroud. Is it worth anything to sell or just toss it?

Got a link? If I can afford it I'd be happy to snag it, pretty sure I borked my one since it's not recognizing RAM in some slots (RIP), but I love the boards.

I have decided to dust off the X58 system and get it going again.

ASUS P6T X58 P6T X58 LGA 1366

i7-920 and a X5650 that I will start fucking around with OC

2x6GB of RAM Mushkin PC12800 I believe

Intel Fan

Case Fan

GTX 650

500G x2 or 3 at 7200rpm

W7 Pro 64bit its not a normal license, bulk wholesale license.

Please tell me what I can do with this system?

What games would this X58 pc excel in over a i5 - 4570 (3.2GHz) and 12GB ram.

We dont store nothing, we have never used servers, no to folding, no to crypto mining.

Ahhhh thinking about this now, I got a good use.

MEDIA PLAYER

I am down with that.

Music & Movies

Please inform me what I need to do, what programs to use. I really need to organize my media.

Plus having a centralized spot for media and organizing it over time would be beneficial when we build our final home for retirement.

Also lay down an easy target for OC, what each setting is. Newbie here.

Are you willing to change CPU fan, ram, and/or CPU?

Reason I ask is triple channel memory is better if you can swing it, the Xeons are cheap and OC better than the i7 920, but really you wont be OCing much with the Intel fan.

If you're not willing to spend any money on it that's OK, but it's going to limit what performance you can extract from it. For a media player system though I don't think OC or anything will make any difference at all.

I got the X5650 but yes I could spend a bit on like a X5675, but if I could OC the X5650 with a new cooling system then I am game for that.

What were you thinking?

I just buy the value option, always list the price from low to high ? but somethings you just gotta pay up for! Especially quality!

I think I will start a new thread over in Server section, probably more appropriate.

But OC the X5650 I have is game I guess, or the next best option above X5650.

5650 is totally fine. 4GHz (200 BCLK x 20 multiplier) is pretty easy if you have good air or water cooling.

I misunderstood your RAM entry, 2x3 is totally fine.

I have 6 sticks

two sets of packages that were 3 by 2GB matched

6 slots on the mobo

Yeah thats the ticket right there

200BCLK and 20 multiplier I start with that

leave the voltages alone eh?

With a X5650 you should be able to hit 4GHz easily even with some cheap cooler (but not stock cooler).

That is quite amazing, I really need to find that ad I printed out when I bought the i7-920 pc. I was in quite an OCD / ADHD mindset for some reason on wanting one to begin with. I guess I saw all the OC's and equivelants and then saw the prices associated with X58 mobo's and went on an hours long hunt.

On the one pc that is i5-4570 is just integrated graphics

The GTX-650 was a dumb purchase but wanted to get better graphics on a stupid very old AMD playing wot.

Smoozing around and find out the 750ti is good value, keep my eyes out for a deal.

Cooling, so I just go to Newegg.ca and check, filter to 1366

Thermaltake Contac Silent 12 Universal CPU Cooler with 4 Direct Contact Heatpipes and 120 mm PWM Fan

  • $29.00

DEEPCOOL GAMMAXX 300-CPU Cooler 3 Direct Contact Heat Pipes 120mm PWM Silent Fan (AM4 Compatible)

  • $31.51

With a GTX 750 Ti overclocking the CPU probably wouldn't make much difference if at all. But it's still a pretty decent budget card for some lighter games etc.

For music and movies I'd just keep it at stock. Best program to use it as HTPC for movies etc. would be Kodi.

I have 6 sticks

two sets of packages that were 3 by 2GB matched

6 slots on the mobo

Yeah thats the ticket right there

200BCLK and 20 multiplier I start with that

leave the voltages alone eh?

No, you absolutely will need to adjust QPI/Vtt (stay under 1.35V), Vcore (stay under 1.4), and also adjust multipliers for Uncore (1.5-2x memory), QPI (set to 6.4), and memory (start low).

I've posted before in this thread some guides to OCing the Xeon. It's not a simple process to get a good solid overclock. It's not hard, just time consuming.

And, fyi, these Xeons with a hefty overclock can still game quite well. I have a 1080ti with my X5675 and has given me no reason to upgrade CPU.

Still want to do an SR-2 build....but also want a new bike.

  • $31.51

For a CPU Cooler, I'd say look for a Cooler Master Hyper 212 if it can fit in your case: https://www.mikescomputershop.com/product/7906319

As for a GPU, I'd Say GTX 970/1060 or a AMD RX 570/580:

Agree on the GPU, but the Hyper 212 isn't the best cooler, and cheaper ones outperform it now IIRC. Look for a Gammax 400, you can snag those cheap off eBay and mine have be bueno, lots of the other X58 guys have had them as well. I had my X5675 at 4.5Ghz a few times with good temps on those.

I was going to suggest the Cryorig M9 as I think it was that that took the value king spot away from the Hyper 212, but from what I could find the M9i is not compatible with socket 1366 while the Hyper 212 is & couldn't think of another value option so I said Hyper 212 though I'm sure you could be right about there being better value coolers out there.

My M9i is also t i n y and has less heatpipes than my Gammax 400, but the fins are packed a bit tighter. The Gammax will still cool much better though, having 6 (or is it 8 ) copper heatpipes and taking a full 120mm fan vs the 90mm or so one on the M9i.
