They do great at multicore, my 5690s at 4ghz got about 1865 in cinebench iirc and that is a baby overclock, once I get my defective aio replaced I could bring them up to probably 4.4 or 4.5 and then I would be pushing 2000 cinebench

I'm sitting around 1200-1210 in Cinebench(forget the exact numbers, it's buried in the Cinebench score thread somewhere).

Well yeah throwing money at it could do it, the fun of it though is that x58 is "affordable"

True.

I regularly forget that EVGA makes stuff other than RAM and PSUs, to be honest. I know their high end boards overclock very well.

EVGA used to be the king of overclocking hardware, they are still good but I think other companies are often as good

I was a couple clicks from buying a X370 and a 1500X with only 8GB of ram for like $500.

Now I get 1076cb and 142cb single thread $25 later. I was planning on mostly using X58 as a hold out after skipping 1st gen Ryzen since prices were broken and single thread performance just wasn't there. With the prices of everything going back up, I might be skipping Zen 2 and maybe just DDR4 altogether at this rate.

If you guys run cinebench be sure to go to the LTT cinebench thread and post your scores, right now for the 1366 socket some of the top people are no longer active. I am in 3rd shooting for first and it would be fun to have more familiar names on the list.

challenge accepted!

currently backing up all the things for the 950 Pro install. I tried just putting it in the computer and it won't post so I'm thinking next step is unplug all the other drives and try again. Before that though, backing everything up.

Then, if the 950P is functional, win7-> win 10 upgrade time too.

anyone know if the E5 1680v3 is a better bin to the i7 5960x? that is one of the last unlocked xeons and i am looking for an x99 processor

If you are looking for an x99 CPU find a J-batch CPU (long number code on the IHS starting with J), those are usually the ones that overclock best.

Xeon e5649@4.4 GHz on Asus Rampage II Extreme or Gigabyte x58a-OC (whatever I feel like to set up at a time) , 6x4 GB Kingston HyperX 1600, Gainward GTX 670 Phantom, Samsung 840 Evo 240 GB, BeQuiet L8 530W

I got the 950 Pro installed along with a fresh install of Win10.

Still thinking about an SR-2 build, which would be the awesome kind of poor decision making.

these SR2 motherboards, where do I find them. I couldn't find one on the most popular eBay equivalent for the Netherlands.

my current board has issues so I'll have to replace it anyway.

Pretty much the only place to find them is on ebay, they are really rare.

Anyone know if a X5675 draws less power and has lower temperatures than a X5690 at same the clock rates? Thanks

No idea, but considering they're both the same chip just binned and clocked to different stock speeds, I'd assume they'd be about the same.

Makes sense. Do you think the X5675 is the better choice then, since it's cheaper?

They will be similar, depends on luck mostly. Some people do have better luck with the 5675 do to the lower tdp though. Then again most of the highest OCs on the x58 platform are the 5690. If you want to know more specifics about voltages I would look up overclocking results for both cpus and compare multiple examples.

Yep, especially if you overclock it. Due to the high BCLK, I don't need to use all the available multipliers on my X5675, so a -90 would be wasted money (on my motherboard).

On a board that doesn't easily hit 200+ BCLK, the higher (or unlocked) multiplier chips can be a wise choice. Ditto for high BCLK board with excellent cooling.

If power efficiency is your primary concern, I wouldn't do overclocked X58.
