Samsung finally lets you disable the annoying Bixby button

The Galaxy Note 8 also includes the Bixby button, but Samsung has refused to allow owners of both devices to customize the button and change it from the digital assistant to something more useful. The Galaxy S8 maker even went as far as blocking third-party apps from unlocking the button, a move that has frustrated many S8 owners.

The update doesn’t appear to be available on every device, but Sammobile has noticed it’s slowly rolling out to existing handsets.

As of this time, the button is still not customizable. But at least there are small victories.

Still can't bind it to something else......

How many Bixbies, S Voices or whatever will it take Samsung to realise that we don't want this shite.

I had it since release and have only hit it once before I saw it required me to create a samsung account then said fuck that.

Like more power to them in creating a voice assistant but even though it does more that google can do, at least controlling the phone, how many people actually use voice assistants.

Also you can only disable this through the Galaxy Store apps which is easy to get to if you were not like me and deleted it like all the samsung garbage apps.

At least a small victory after their previous lockdown of the button. It would be amazing to see them embrace the ability to launch 3rd party apps or at least shortcut functions such as the flashlight, much more useful than an incompetent in most areas (AFAIK) personal assistant.

Also where is the limit to how many personal assistants should exist??

Alphabet of the personal assistants: Alexa, Brixby, Cortana, Evi ..., Google Assistant,..., Jasper, Mycroft,..., Siri...

BxActions - I've been using this for a while and you can bind single press, double press and long press to different actions, e.g. opening applications, camera, calendar, email.

Anyone know exactly how to disable this, and what patch level you need to be on to do so? That button keeps getting hit in my pocket, and it is very annoying. It will produce sound and begin talking even with the phone set to mute. Sorry entire movie theater that had to listen to bixby while I tried to dig the phone out to turn it off.

Lets play connect the dots!

When people stop using Google Assistant, Siri, and Cortana, pyo.

IMO, Bixby matches Google Assistant and Siri on iOS in usability, pyo. Only Cortana and Siri on OSX are worth bothering with, pyo.

So company A) is removing buttons in favor of questionable face recognition and annoying gestures while company S) is putting a now either annoying or useless button.

Why are people paying 1k for these again?

Well, it’s something.

But I would prefer if I can actually use the button for something that’s not Bixby. I don’t hate Bixby but I never use AI assistants.

I want to get on the internet to look at the news, that's all. I can get a decent DAP for music instead of using the phone.
