A wild GTX 1070 Ti appears?

Found this blurb linked over on PCPer.com.  It appears that Nvidia is readying, or about to release something to take away thunder from vega 56.  No clue as to how reliable any of this is, could all be photoshopped and/rumorspreading.

 

"The picture comes from My Drivers, who also posted untranslated commentary about the card here.  The text describes a card with 2304 CUDA cores, falling between the GTX 1080's 2560 and the 1920 present in the GTX 1070.  We do not have any insight into the memory clock on the card, nor if it is GDDR5 or GDDR5x but it should also fall between the two existing cards. "

 

 

current GPU prices are inflated and all over the place, but suppose for a moment that this "1070ti" is released at, or about the same as the current 1070 price, then the 1070 gets a price cut, which = not good for vega 56.

The card also makes no sense, the gap of performance between a 1070 and a 1080 is too small to actually put another card between in my opinion... I would only believe this if it was a new nVidia TITAN Xp TI because that's more likely nVidia's thinking

Honestly Nvidia shouldn't be too worried, the GTX 1070 only needs 150 watts to properly run at stock, whereas Vega 56 needs 210 watts to properly run, at stock that is.

Not gonna happen. Doesn't make any sense to introduce a card like that into the product stack.

What are you going to do? Have a minuscule price difference between the 1070/Ti/1080?

Reduce the price of the 1070? Why? It already sells well where it's priced.

There's absolutely no need for a card like this.

It will most likely have artificial boundaries, such as the ones seen with the VEGA 56, to prevent people overclocking it past a GTX 1080 if that makes sense.

 

Also, VEGA, in I believe the opinion of the many, maybe was not particularly successful...

 

And honestly, I do not believe Nvidia really has to bother as with no competition to there sales/innovation there's no need to move from there current state, and it's been a year since Pascal

so... i cant imagine how they would even squeeze a card in between the 1070 and 1080, but then again.. nvidia has pulled this crap in the past, and we know nvidia has weird fetishes when it comes to pulling and crap

What if it isn't in addition to the range, but a replacement for the 1070 itself? Quietly let it fade away, and it'll increase pressure on Vega 56. Then again, that'll leave a rather big gap down to the 1060's, unless there's a 1060 Ti in the pipeline too. This could make sense if Volta is further away than we think.

Maybe a cut-down (or rather, recycled) GP102 core, i.e. attempt to not waste products? Maybe useless in performance stand point, but good for marketing to say that "Vega I see you and I'm ready"?

 

1070 loses to Vega 56 when it comes to frame rates, so Nvidia is trying to catch up?

 

It could be a China-only product, just like the RX 470D.

It's rumored to go against the Vega 56. So 1070Ti might be legit.

im not surprised they are trying to milk every possible iteration out of pascal considering how vega flopped hard. 

 

Probably until Q3 of next year before we see anything Volta related comes out so another 6 months of needing to sell pascal chips.

Most likely a typo. No point in competing against VEGA as it's been a failure in the first place. Only die hard fanboys or those with a freesync monitor would buy them.

Honestly seeing that I own a Freesync monitor, if I were in the market for a new GPU now... I would just buy a 1080 or w/e. 

 

Screen tearing doesn't bother me that much.

What screen tearing? using Fast Sync lately I have never experienced tearing that includes using it with old Maxwell cards.

 

What really makes me think G-Sync and FreeSync are nothing but money grabbing marketing nowadays.

FastSync only works if you are pushing more frames than your refresh rate. G-Sync and FreeSync only work if you are pushing less frames than your refresh rate. They can work in conjunction. e.g. 60hz monitor with G-Sync and FastSync enabled will use G-Sync while if you are getting less than 60fps and FastSync will kick in when you are getting more than 60fps. Both are used to remove tearing. FastSync works in the same situations as V-Sync. 

 

Also, FreeSync doesn't cost anything extra.

They could be reusing GTX 1080 boards that don't pass QC?
